I`m thinking about Upgrading the CPU in my computer but i have a few Q`s about it...

1.How many teeth(pin) Do P3`s have or do they all have the same??
2.replacing just the CPU would make a computer work faster rite?
3.intel Celeron D,P4 or Pentium D?

Well, first, you can't put a pentium4, celeron D, or pentium D in the same socket that a pentium3 would go into. The only thing you could do is get another pentium 3. And every processor has a different amount of pins, this is called the "socket". and i would first suggest just wiping your hard drive with a fresh install of your favorite OS before replacing your whole comp.

probably would be just as cheap to buy a whole new computer then to replace the mobo and cpu to newer stuff.

You would have to update pretty much everything in your computer. So I would just buy a new computer.

What exactly do you have to update just to change out CPU`s?

Well since you mainboard doesn't support any cpu's currently available you'll have to replace your mainboard which means upgrading the ram. So that's most of the big stuff besides hard drive and power supply. Oh and you'll need a good power supply for the new stuff.

Don't forget video card too, unless he really wants onboard video...

So NONE of these will work with what i have?

just wikipedia`ed it but i`m not sure if i have the 370 celeron(coppermine)
or the 478 celeron which is the SAME socket as
the P4,celeron D and P4 Extreme...

But i have to take out my CPU to tell which one i have.

So my next Q

1.whats better for a CPU the GHz or the MHz?

If you want to upgrade your CPU, and you don't want to change your board, you will need to find the specs of your mother board, to see if it supports any other CPU faster than your current one.

If you are in a tight budget, the best thing you could do is add more memory.
You can have the fastest CPU, but if you dont have alot of memory the PC will get slow when doing a lot of stuff. When computers run out of memory it will use the Hard Disk as temporary "memory", and the Hard Disk is a lot!!!! slower than the memory.

To answer your other question GHz is a greater amount than MHz, in other word GHz is faster... but you also have to keep in mind when looking for specs is the CPUs FSB speed and that the mother board you buy can go up to that FSB speed otherwise, you will not be getting all the performance out of your CPU.

Like others mentioned, if you upgrade to the newest CPUs and boards you will probably need to buy New Memory and a new Power Supply... in other words a brand new PC.

ok i can get a NEW M.B. made for core 2 quad for $300-129
and a CPU for like $129+ and then a new power supply for???
what Watt would i need for it?

and the NEW desktop i want is $1,199-1,399...What happened to laptops being MORE????

That won't fit into your mainboard. Last I checked those are 720 pin.

o.0 now your confusing me ...WHATS the main board?

CPUl (http://www.xpcgear.com/e4300.html)
mother board (http://www.xpcgear.com/conroemobo.html)
power supplies (http://www.xpcgear.com/powersupply.html)
and a new case (http://www.xpcgear.com/acryliccasecr.html)

The main board is the big electronics board on your pc.... Is that what you were asking?
