It's actually clocked at 630Mhz stock, but with a 900Mhz procesor. I personally have gotten Medal of Honor: Allied Assault to play multiplayer over a wifi connection, and some people have gotten Halo 1 to work. I have Windows FLP on mine. It is not possible to run Leopard on a Windows based computer of the Eee's caliber, and the same can be said about playing games through WINE, it's just not a fast processor. Xandros isn't your typical Linux distro either, you can't just go installing packages. It really is a great computer, and for e-mail and web surfing it's great. Mondo processing power isn't necessary, people who are generally uneducated about computers tend to think that the faster and more of anything you have in a computer the better. In a few cases this is true, but Windows XP will run fine on a 500Mhz P3 with 256MB of RAM, and will run with 233Mhz and 64MB of RAM, albeit slow. If Windows programs were as easy to install and run on Linux as on Windows (and ran at the same speed), there would be alot more Linux users.
But the whole point of Linux is free software and a free operating system. Along with a source that anyone can edit. The freedom of not being controlled by a man that has more money than he knows what to do with.

The Asus Eee isn't meant to be your main computer either, and it IS cheap. Apple will come out with some heavy piece that is around $1200, and Apple will claim that they were the first company to come out with something of that size, and babble on about how they came out with it first. Meant for the wealthy, nerdy, and college students? Don't make me laugh. The only reason to have a Mac is to tell other groupies you have one. Don't try to kid yourself into think that Mac's are actually better. Whenever you have to pay $200 for a Radeon 9600 card to go in a PC, let me know. LULZ
I know lots of people that have macs that aren't rich and definitely aren't college students. They are excellent computers, just a bit expensive (but have zero problems).
well you guys know what i mean! iwouldnt buy a computer which is made for a different country otherwise in a way a imported computer, i know most are made over sea's but you all know what i meant i hope anywase...if you didnt now you do.
Would you not buy it because of the Bios being in another language making it a pita to change the bios to install an english os? Thats usually why I don't buy Mexican computers.

whoa man. read the first 6 words of my first reply and calm yourself. wouldnt want the jang to shut this thread down. dont bash on individuals or their opinions. listen to, discuss, and debate what they have to say
first off, no, macs arent cheap, but you most definitely get what you pay for. not only is leopard much better than xp or vista (dont even try to deny THAT) but the hardware is much higher quality than what you get in MOST PCs. (there are exceptions, going both ways). i am not denying you being able to buy a faster pc for cheaper, but speed isnt everything
wealthy, nerdy, and college students was an understatement, but wasnt just about macs in general. it was more specifically about the new "slim macbook." the average joe wont be able to afford it because its more of an accessory than a computer. nerdy because they want all the new stuff. and college students is because why carry around a bulky laptop when you can take this thing which will be tiny and incredibly lightweight (not "some heavy piece"), do all the typing and other tasks you need to do in college classes, and take it back to your dorm where you have your more powerful desktop computer. (not to tell other "groupies" i have one) i wish i could tell more about the computer itself, but since its still a rumor, i cant
and for your last 2 statement, yes, i truly believe most newer macs are better than most PCs. partially from hardware, mostly from software. i cant say anything stronger because theres no comparing a mac mini to something with a quad core extreme, or a junker PC bought at best buy to a mac pro with two 3.0GHz quad core xeons and 16gb ram. i AM posting this on my pc, but only because my imac i ordered last week has not arrived yet. i expect it tomorrow or tuesday, definitely by the end of the week. oh and your last one didnt make sense. maybe a typo, maybe i just totally missed what you were trying to say. what?
I totally agree with you. And I'm posting this on my 100% Microshaft free computer (I took the label on my mouse off).
yeah why buy one of those and have to go through the hassle of changing the bios when you can buy one ouready in english.

Last time I checked, most college students aren't rich.
I must say, that last line there has to be one of the broadest statements I have heard in a long time.

You get what you pay for? Tell me then, why is it cheaper to buy a PC and emulate OS X than it is to buy Mac hardware? What I was meaning with the last statement, you pretty much backed the statement up. Go find the best, or one of the best, video cards for a Mac computer. It's a Radeon 9600. How much do you have to shell out to buy one? Around $200. For a Radeon 9600. How much does the Radeon 9600 for PC cost? You can get one used for around $30. You're talking about how college students don't want to carry around something big and bulky so they will buy the Mac Mini or whatever, I guess you forgot what computer this thread was originally started about, the Asus Eee. I was wrong earlier. 630Mhz and 512MB of PC can emulate OS X. That's the same specs as a high end computer from 2001. You just got owned.
http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/dreams-can-come-true/399-ultraportable-apple-laptop-os-x-on-asus-eee-pc-323279.php
Actucally my high end computer from 2001 (yes, 2001) will be a tad bit over 3.2ghz (server mobo and two amd 2000+ cpu's). So how's that for a high end 2001 computer.
So lets calculate this, my computer is 3.2ghz and the eee is 900mhz. That's only a difference of 2.3ghz. So they seem about the same to me.
And now I believe you just got owned.

???...Ok, I'm just going to start slowly walking towards the door...I'm sorry I was wrong about what a high end computer in 2001 was, I guess I would be more correct in saying 1997? The point was to prove how older PC hardware could run a new Mac operating system, I wasn't arguing with anyone about what the best computer in 2001 was. If you would have read the thread you would have known this, along with knowing that the Eee runs at 630Mhz...
I was pretty sure it comes clocked at 900mhz. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASUS_Eee_PC
The only thing you can get me for is that the CPU's I have didn't come out till 2002, but still only 7 months away from 2001.

Oh I was just reading what the processor was. Do you know if it's only slowed down for cooling?
