its a dell 8400 80gb HD and fresh 512(2) of memmory.
hey all i think my motherboard is dead, i have no power to my mouse nor key board! ever! when i power it up the fan speeds out of control, recently added 2 sticks of 512 memmory.
Question is, is it worth having a computer geek get it going again??

There's something wrong with your mainboard. No use getting one of those guys from geeksquad or whatever. Take everything off of it and put a new mainboard in. If you can get the same mainboard you had before you won't need to reinstall your os. And sometimes you wont need to reload it with a different mainboard.
Yep DIY! It's not hard to do all like seth said, make note of where cables & wires go, take everything off and remove the board and do it again in reverse. I do this stuff every day as my job. Trust me, it's more than easy enough that you can do it yourself and it's DEFINITELY NOT WORTH paying Nerd Squad $300 to come to your house and replace a $150 motherboard.
As far as if it's worth it... that's up to you. If you want to put out the money for a new MOBO than it is worth it, if not then it's not.

Is the memory that you added matched? Is it the same speed and size? I would try clearing the cmos first.

It's probably more than that because they will take the computer apart and re-install windows (just to make sure it works right....). Then you still have to pay for the board.
