Fios!! finally installed!!!

hey guys we finally are getting FIOS (Fiber Optics) internet. But we are having them install it in my uncles garage on the same property, they are installing a router, and battery back-up. I need to know exactly what i would need to have internet to my lap top which is aprx a few hundred feet away from the garage?

also any XBL guys, what will i need to have XBOX LIVE aproximately a couple hundred feet away from the house?

You could put a wireless router next to a window in the garage and hope that the signal will travel that far. It may work if there are no obstacles between you and the garage.

If you want to go really nuts you could put an antenna on top of the garage and enjoy WIFI for a very long distance ;)

If your looking to connect VIA a WiFi you will need a wireless router and a repeater or two to get a good enough signal for online gaming. You can get a antenna relocation base but that would be like peeing in the wind, just won't get it done :lol:. I would get one of the new draft N routers that have almost double the output as a standard wireless router has. Make sure you stay with trusted brands like Linksys, they work really, really good. I use one for my household WiFi needs and my PS3 never lags....it's about 80 feet away in another room. Oh, make sure you get atleast 7dB gain antenna's, they will make a world of difference.

finally guys when i got home from the docs at about 230 they were at my house installing the internet! im on it now. this is so awesome! before i couldnt even watch a youtube video!! our speed is running at 15:2 which is very fast.

Is that 15 down 2 up? That's ridiculous! I get 6Mbps down and 768Kbps up with my cable modem and WIFI and that's way more than enough. And to know that FIOS is about the same price as my cable connection:mad: Oh well, maybe we'll get it some day. Did you get the TV and phone service through them too?

my uncles place which is at the top of the property had their TV service installed, he got 2 DVR's and 1 regular box installed. Eventually we will get the phone service. all together he will be spending around 100 bucks give or take a few for FIOS Internet, land line phone, And TV service!
