To add a bank account to paypay, do you have to have a checking account?

No you do not, I have mine linked to a savings account.

Then were do I get the routing number. All they say is that its on your checks, btu I don't have a checking account

If the bank has an online website it should be listed somewhere on there. Otherwise, call the location where you opened the account and ask them for the information. It should be in an information packet or with a deposit slips booklet you get when opening the account, etc.

Have you tried calling the bank? I am a customer of Wells Fargo, and it took some digging to find a routing number. However, with banking online now I can easily access it through their website. It's not an individual bank account routing number, just a sort of label of the location.

Yes, that should work just fine. However, if it doesn't, something will go awry in the verification process. In other words, no harm done.
