Version 1.0.9 | June 28th, 2007
I'ved decide to create a simple and short guide for beginners with some useful tips, tricks and explanations in helping succeed in LPC.
This is by no way an all-including guide. You will learn the finer details about LPC the longer you play.
So, don't know what LPC is? It stands for Lost Power City - a turn-based website RPG.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Basics
Leveling and Statistics
So what benefits are there in leveling? You get increased hit points, a larger multiplier when doing workouts and access to higher areas in the game. Higher areas provide shops with unique and usually better items. There are though, quite a few novelty items.
First off, here is a list of known areas you can access with their required levels.
Level 1: Downtown, Southwest
Level 5: Industrial Hell
Level 10: Mexico
Level 20: Hollywood
Level 30: The Hills
Level 40: Ashland Groves
Level 50: Metropolis
Level 75: Outlands
Level 90: Sunset Point
Level 100: Lost City
Level 125: Death Valley
Level 150: Imperial Sand Dunes
Level 155: Dark City
Level 200: Area 51
Level 240: Lost Canyon Lake
Level 250: Fiji Islands
Level 275: Iraq
Level ???: ???
Level ???: ???
Level ???: ???
Level ???: ???
Level ???: ???
Level ???: ???
Level ???: ???
Level ???: ???
Level 666: Hell
Level 777: Heaven
So how do you level? Well initially you can level comfortably by just working out. Working out is where you will improve your statistics. A gym is located in 4 locations: Downtown, HollyWood, Metropolis and the Lost City. You can see your statistics by clicking -Go Home-.
Using your criminal intent points is also useful during early levels. I suggest you only do the 1 point crimes for easier success rates. Note: your stamina affects your criminal intent success. So for lower point crimes having 85%+ stamina and for higher crimes having 95%+ would be optimal.
The other way [and most effective] is simply fighting someone equal to your level or higher. You will get two options if you defeat a person: mug or finish. Mugging will give you experience and possible money/crystals rewards [depending if they don't have any hidden in a safe depository]. Finishing a player puts an enemy in hospital for a longer period, however you get no rewards - other than satisfaction!
So, WOW! Let's level as high as we can and cause carnage! Now wait up there Jimmy! Leveling is not necessarily beneficial in LPC. It has it's pros and cons depending on your financial status. The other issue is statistics. Regardless of level, if your statistics are worse you will most likely still lose. Recharge rates for stamina also become slower as you move up in properties. More stamina, means the longer it will take to fill. Same thing goes for the regeneration effects of food items. More is explained in the -Rules of Engagement- section. Also remember to have your energy and stamina nearly maxed for optimal workouts.
Tip#1: When leveling, try use a battle axe or lower to reduce waiting time on your target. This also makes it fair on others trying to level. Nothing is worse than having to wait 35+min because someone went gun crazy!
Tip#2 Finding it hard to manage your energy, blood alcohol and fat levels while leveling and working out? Try combinations of food and alcohol along with tick energy regeneration to manage things easily. Work out what item adds per use, this way you can time it so you have 99% on fat and then use a soda and get the full energy benefits for only 1% fat. Vodkas and sodas are effective even at later levels; just make sure to use the subway if you are drunk.
Show Me The Money!
There quite a few ways to make money in LPC. The first, and most powerful way is to simply donate. There are donation packages ranging from $3 to $50 @ http://www.lostpower.com/game/donations.php
Another way is to do street searches. This option is available in every area. Here you can pick up raw cash, crystals, food and energy bars. You can use up to 1-100 turns at a time and these regenerate once per 5 minutes - this is also referred to as "ticks". You can sell street items you find via the LPC market. You could also do this via personal email business deals. Turns can be used also to try your luck at one of the few games in the LPC Casino.
Hacking is a sneaky addition too. In the users profile there will be an option called "hack bank account". You will need 25 criminal attempt points to do this, so people just starting out cannot access this right away. Computer skills contribute to your success chances and increasing these skill points can be achieved through the Education section. These educational lessons may take a LONG time to complete, some take a month! Make sure the person you are hacking has not been recently on, this will improve your hacking chances. If you fail a hack you get thrown in jail for up to 5-20min. Some people can get millions from a hack [though don?t expect this on your first try].
Criminal acts also give you some money, but they can also put you in jail. They are a great way to pay-off little tidbits such as subway travel, food and alcohol. Remember, the higher the stamina, the better your success rates are.
You can attain cash and additions skills by having a job. You can sign up for your first big role as a burger boy at level 3. As you level up and gain job skill points you can sign up for more lucrative positions. Note you can quit a job and not lose ANY bonuses, just make sure you reapply before the midnight game time. The economics course costs only 20k, this takes 5 days to learn but give you 350 job skills. This is a handy initial class to take. Note: More jobs are being planned to be added, ones that scale better with higher levels.
How do these people have so much money?!?!
Besides donating, the biggest methods in making BULK money is through the amount of money you can attain for interest each day. Since it is compound interest you want to be putting in as much as you possibly can afford for each daily cycle. The more you have in there, the more you will make with interest. It may not seem like much in the beginning, but once your bank starts building up...money shouldn't be much of an issue.
Some useful tips..
Tip #1: The LPC market fluctuates. Usually high level players have a larger demand for crystals, energy bars and nutrishakes. However, they will log on in the morning or at night leaving a period of market product flooding. During this flooding people can get desperate and under-value their items. It would be wise to buy these items and resell them to make a neat profit.
Tip #2: Sell higher area items to lower-level people who cannot access them. Usually they will accept the premiums. Watch out though that you are not selling them to any potential enemies.
Tip#3: Find a popular hacking target. Ask around or you can check out the jail queue and discover the hot targets.
Tip#4: Computer skills help your hacking success rate. Learn these and more skills in the education section!
Tip#5: Too low on stamina to risk robbing a store? Stealing cigarettes gives $500 a pop and you cannot go to jail on a fail! [requires 10 Criminal Act points]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Battles!
Rules Of Engagement
Alright! What about fighting?! What works? Who will win? Who should I fight?
Your main fighting statistics are:
Strength: Influences the damage of your attack when your make a hit
Speed: Influences your chance of making an attack or dodging an attack
Self Defense: Influences the amount of damaged absorbed when an enemy attack is made
If two fighters have equal items, it will come down to statistics and an element of luck. So in theory, it is very possible for someone many levels under to still easily defeat people much higher than him or herself.
There are two types of armor: ranged and melee. The type of weapon against the type of armor will influence it?s efficiency. For example if you use a melee weapon against someone with Kevlar Armor [ranged armor], you will strike more damage than if that person had Knight?s Armor [melee armor]. The same goes visa-versa for ranged weapons.
[B]Tip#1: Concentrate more on speed and strength at the start, however as you find it harder to rank your stats may be forced to level out.
Tip#2: Spy on people! For a fee you can find out what stats or items a player has. This can be crucial in avoiding a beat down. If attacked have your Mexicondes [HP healing item found in Mexico] ready to heal! Plus always have med-kits in stock to decrease or eliminate hospital duration.
Tip#3: Read player profiles. Are they level 30 with a 10% win rate? Do they have a lower tier property? Chances are they power-leveled and did not stat. However, SPY just incase!
Tip#4: Before you go into battle try send a cheap lesser item to your enemy. You can only have one working item for armor or weapons, so if they have auto accept on the computer will randomly select their fighting item! Send as many as you can to improve your odds of them using a weak item.
Tip#5: Who is dying a lot in hospital? Patrol this area for common and weak prey if you are in desperate need for exp.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There's more?!?!
Miscellaneous Information
Click the red voting link [to your bottom left] for FREE daily cash and crystals!
Make sure you get a safe depository ASAP. Any cash and crystals stored there will be untouchable by nasty hackers.
Interest paid on bank accounts occur at a universal time. So put your money in JUST before midnight [on the game clock] and you will receive the interest. Simply take it out after. Be careful though, muggers know this too.
There is a bank that offers higher interest [12%] and 100% protection! This is only accessible at level 100 and onwards.
got_milk likes to suicide bomb downtown to reduce server lag! Watch your back!
You can get good liquor and food items in the areas of Southwest and The Hills. Sodas give double the amount of energy of burgers but give 25% fat per use. They are GREAT early items for energy boosting. Try and pay a Level 30 or above player to buy them for you.
Items stored at home will not be lost if your property is bombed, so relax.
Bombs can fail and explode in your face... GOGGLES PEOPLE!
When browsing and moving items about, do so slowly and CAREFULLY. You don't want to hit sell on an energy bar or nutrishake by accident.
Is someone on a lower level with high stats picking on you? Travel to an area he cannot access! A player MUST be in the same area of the character he is attacking.
Refreshing frequently contributes to server lag. Easy on that f5 button Maverick!
Someone too powerful to defeat? You can hire assassins to do your dirty work!
There is no need to buy a license at first. You rarely get caught-out by police, and if you do it's a short jail time of around 5-15min.
Buying your first car? Buy the Civic! It is cheaper on petrol! Don't forget to fill your tank, a 125k car will have a 31k impound fee!
The average price for an energy bar is 200k, nutrishake 1.5mill and crystals 8k each.
It's simple, DON'T piss people off. Even people at low levels, because they will soon grow stronger like you. However, if you don't care about pleasing people, join a gang and commit rampage!
Small med-kits heal less HP than a mexicodone but reduce more hospital waiting time.
Better property = more max stamina and therefore more you will get from workout points. Make this a top priority.
Have items on the market? Nice! Going to sleep or offline? You better take them back, or else they can sell and you'll come home to an alert filled with muggings.
Make sure you keep $50 during your searches so you don't miss out on $1 crystal deals from bums.
Want to send crystals? You can do this by either profile option as a donator or doing a transfer through a gang.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The End..
Conclusion
I've tried a few of the other turn-based website games but LPC seems to have a more intuitive and intense game play. The layout and interface is also well designed.
It is definitely a fun game to play while at work, or while at home!
If there is anything incorrect in this guide, give me a pm (UserId 3000) and I will contact (1)dEf to make the appropriate changes asap [and update the version number].
