Well I had been using Ubuntu for a while and got fed up of the stuff it could and couldn't do. So I was switching to Fedora. Got FC6 installed and was trying to get my wireless card working. Talked to my Linux friend and he said they updated all the drivers in the new fc7 and the newest kernel. So I got home and tried to get the going and ended up just screwing everything up and nothing would work. It would freeze or stop or something else. And it had screwed up the boot loader too so I couldn't go into Windows.

I fooled around with it for some hours and then was about to go do something else and saw an old PCLinuxOS sitting there. I was thinking maybe I'll try that and see if it works. Well I got it installed first try and got my wireless card working with almost no trouble and it already had ndiswrapper installed so it was super easy.

It's working because I'm writing this now. Just have to get my dual monitor setup working and I'll be set.

So for anyone intrested in Linux I highly recommend PCLinuxOS.

I used to use Damn Small Linux all the time but I got fed up with it because every time I tried to install a program it kept asking for me to install more components. I finally gave up.

Thats really weird. What were you usually trying to install?

Why do you have to use a program for that. Just let the computer do it without the program. See linux is all about doing everything the simplest way. Unlike Windows where it packs all it can into everything it does.

There are linux made drivers for some of the more popular wifi cards and then for the ones like mine theres ndiswrapper which uses the windows driver. And unlike windows which will take the wifi program it just takes the driver and uses that to make the connection at boot time.

Yes, and all of that works, but if you are within range of more than one wireless network or around one with a key it is extremely hard to configure your computer to connect to it because it won't do all that at startup.

But you can still go back and tell it which one to connect to. And also get it to connect to that one each time.

I use Damn Small Linux on flash drive, for either using it at school or work or wherever, and I love it.
