ok, windows movie maker is pissing me off. only half the movies i make actually get saved and usually by luck. the whole program is loaded with problems..sometimes i accidently will hit the endpoint when giving the movie a fade effect and i cant undo it so the movie will just stop in the middle and wont continue and when i try to save it says error try again.
any other movie makers out there?
thanks

Adobe Premier/After Effects
Sony Vegas 7.0
They're pretty pricey though...
yeah, Sony Vegas is your best bet.
i'm glad i get all my software legally, not by getting the trial and finding a keygen...because that's very illegal, because you don't have to pay for it. which is bad. very bad. those poor designers out all of $600 dollars...
Adobe Premier/After Effects
Sony Vegas 7.0
REALLY would not suggest AE for a beginner. motion graphics are serious business :p
i'm still a beginner in them myself
yeah, Sony Vegas is your best bet.
how so? :/
i'm not ragging on vegas, i have a copy installed (though i never use it. premiere is my personal preference).
their both pretty equal these days. vegas has caught up to premiere .
for a beginner, i'd reccomend either pinnacle or magix.
pinnacle has really been having an uphill battle with glitches and crashes since version 10 though.
i'd say go with magix movie maker 12. it's pretty powerfull considering the 40-50 dollar price tag.
allows multi track editing, has some motion features, keying, ect.
sorry, i just read the reply and assumed this was a "recommend something better than WMM for me" thread.
the first thing that comes to mind is your source footage and your audio.
audio - only use uncompressed wav. mp3 is for listening, not editing. (could give an explaination if you like)
you can load it into audacity and save it as a .wav
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
video - well, the most common mistake is using clips encoded for viewing, like divx or xvid.
(again, i can give an explanation for exactly why if you like, but for now i'll just assume i'd bore you :p )
the quickest fix is to load them into virtualdubmod and goto video>compression>huffyuv.
i believe this is the only lossless codec WMM accepts.
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/huffyuv.cfm
also, yes. your video files will be huge this way. averaging about 13gb per 22 minutes.
you can knock out some of the file size by deleting the audio stream if you don't need it through virtualdubmod
http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/
and no, switching programs will not fix these issues. all video programs suffer the same problems with xvid and divx, as well as mp3:
* Slow seeking and decoding of frames.
* Edits not being frame-accurate.
* Frequent crashing of the editing program.
* Frames being displayed out of order.
* Smearing, blocking, and other types of video artifacts.
* Editing program giving an error or displaying black video.

whoa you lost me there...ah well, i think i just had to much going on my computer..I dunno...seems to work ok now..we'll see
i'll assume your using .avi
right click, properties, summary tab.
what is the codec?
also, using mp3?
vegas is fine with mp3's too. lol
i actually used it to make some of my ringtones, lol
yes...a video editor to make ringtones...
i like it though, it's much better than windows movie maker...
but like i said, NEVER use keygens...there bad...*shakes finger*
vegas is fine with mp3's too. lol
no, it's really not. :|
no, it's really not. :|
which version are you using?
if you don't have the full version it doesn't even accept them if i remember right, but if you've got it, it's perfectly fine with them...

i have the full version, but this has nothing to do with that.
most editing programs will accept mp3, but it's not very accurate for editing. suffers alot of the same problems you get from editing with divx/xvid.
* Slow seeking and decoding
* Edits not being frame-accurate.
* Frequent crashing of the editing program.
that's weird...might just depend on the computer then.
i've done plenty of mp3 alone editing and lots of movies adding in mp3 clips for sound and never had any problems like that...lol
i love vegas for that reason actually, works with all the file types i used, including mp3
i miss it...
*curses restoration disc*

doesn't

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murphy%27s_law
i assure you, i know what i'm talking about when it comes to video.
i actually live in the town of murphy...i know ALL about Murphy's Law...
*twitch* *twitch*
i guess different people do things differently, once i get the chance, i'm getting vegas again for the mp3 reason...
lol
ah, ignorance is bliss.
have fun.
i'm not trying to be rude...
how am i ignorant?...
i'm not going based on what other people say about it, i'm going on experience.
i've used it countless times with mp3's and never had any problems with it
unless there's something else your trying to say about it i missed?
so it doesn't work for you, that's nice, but it doesn't make me ignorant because i don't have problems with it.

i have the full version, but this has nothing to do with that.
most editing programs will accept mp3, but it's not very accurate for editing. suffers alot of the same problems you get from editing with divx/xvid.
In Vegas 7.0 you have the option to have it default open all audio in the audio editor of your choice, I use Audacity. It has a built in option, but you can just cut and fade in/out and basic effects.
it's fine to do cutting, fading, and volume adjustments in your video editing program.
using mp3 is a no-no though.
just convert to wav in audacity. it take 4 to export a song, tops.
i am offering good advice here.
didn't quite sound like you were trying to give advice...
you were saying i couldn't do something i'd done many-a-times...
i just got into the habit of using MP3, because i'd need an MP3 file in the end for my phone.
ignorance is still bliss
