well my dad and i have both our computers hooked up to a router so we can both use the internet. but im wondering if the chance of someone getting acess over the internet to my computer can they use the router/network to get acess to my dads computer?

from what i see it as its 2 seperate IP adderesses and someone would have to get by my firewalls, then the routers, then past my dads. is that correct?

yes...you could go and set the network up, so you make it password protected, so you have to know the password to connect to the network

That's just to gain access to your network... People could still get to your father's computer over the internet through your router, but it's unlikely to happen.

I hate when people call their little home wireless access points "routers". They are not routers. They don't perform any routing functions, no routing tables, no CLI, just switching.
