 My computer got a little virus a little while ago and now the background won't show up. It disabled the background selection and will only show solid colors now. Though, when I shut down the background pic will flash after all the icons dissapear and it goes to the shutting down screen. Anybody have any idea how to fix it?

1. Don't use limewire (use bittorrernt), as limewire is riddled with spyware.
2. Get a good Antivirus. I recommend NOD32.

1. No. No it isn't. KaZaA was, Limewire is not. I'm pretty sure Ad Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Norton, or Webroot Spysweeper would have pick up something if it did.
2. Definitely. Based on the fact that you can see your background flash once you turn the computer off, it sound like you have a program running in the background that has taken over your desktop for some reason.

I can change the background color though which got me confused. The only thing I can't get to is changing the background picture because it appears underneath the color. Im running some anti-spyware scans right now so we'll see what we find.
I would get rid of the limewire and get Frostwire. It runs on the same networks as limewire but it is open source and free. Meaning no ads.

I ran the scans and deleted quite a few spyware items and trojans and the background is back to normal. Thanks guys.
there are no ads in limewire, or spyware.
he asked about his computer problem.
i would suggest formatting. after your OS has been comprimised by a virus, you should just backup what you need, and format. long term problems are likely to manifest otherwise

I'm talking about the stuff you download, not the program itself, silly. a lot of it is infected with adware, spyware, viruses, you name it, and you can probably get it from limewire without knowing it.

You can get nailed simply by visiting a web site, hackers also randomly run through IP ranges to find vulnerable computers, this is why I'm a big fan of port forwarding so instead of the computer giving the hacker a response, the knock on the door goes off into la la land and the hacker assumes there is no computer to try to get into.
I have a neat little piece of freeware you guys should be using, it will destroy BHO's, which are basically parasites that follow you around when you use your browser, which many viruses do install onto your system without you knowing. You'll see what I mean, here is the download, http://discflight.com/HijackThis.exe save it to your computer and run it, just if you are not sure what it is you are taking out, it's better to leave it in place, it's a powerful little program, and if you opt to wipe everything out completely, you'll be reinstalling the flash plug in and a few things from MS, but nothing terrible is going to happen and it might get your computer back in your control.
Have to also agree, a reformat is pretty much mandatory when ever you get a virus if you want to totally eliminate it, also be sure to reformat the MBR as well, some attach themselves to that area and reload right back onto your system regardless, if I'm speeking greek to you, I highly suggest letting a local computer shop do it for you, it's not lightweight stuff here.
