hey everyone.

i've got a problem with my desktop computer.
I bought a band new Gate Way GT4023E little while back. and ever since i've owned it i'v had software/hardware problems.

mainly my USB ports.

All of my ports, front and rear act the same.

I'll have my printer plugged in, wont be able to print off anything if my computer has been on for 30 or so minutes with the printer not being active or not printing anything.
same goes for everything else, cant upload pictures off of my digital camera after 30 or so minutes if it wasnt active soon after everything loaded up.

all though, my wireless mouse and keyboard, which are ran off of 2 differant ports, and both use USB ports, will work non stop, guessig because they are constantly active.

my webcam also does te same thing with not working.

now what i have figure dout, known this for awile. as soon as i restart my computer, and open the program or use the device, it will work fine.

same problem goes along with my scanner, wont work untill restart.

also, another problem. my computer wont automatically read disc's i put into my cd rom, i have to go to my computer and type on the drive to open software.

anyone got any ideas?
any ideas on what driver is messed up or where i can download the driver/software to fix this?

i've tried restoring my computer to the date i bought it on, still acts up.

well thanks for reading this, and thanks a bunch more if u can help

Did your computer come with any driver CD's? If so, install those.

So all that it came with is a disk with windows XP on it? What does the disk say on it?

I believe its the selective suspend feature of XP, Usb devices can automatically shut down when they detect that the device is idle. Im assuming your running XP correct? If so go to control panel-Performance and Maintenance-Power Options-There you see the Power Schemes tab, Make sure that the Power scheme is set to Home office/desk or even try Always on if that does not work. Also make sure that System standby is set to never. Hope that helps, I think you may be set to portable laptop, so its just trying to conserve battery life.

If that doesnt work i have a little more advanced way to do it.

already done that, still does the same.

just ot let you know.

s far as i know.
nuthing is set up to shut off or turn to idle at any time.

under my device management- Universal Serial bus Controllers.

the 3rd and 4th category on the list are Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host controller and Standard openHCD USB host controller.

i click on either. and the tabs up top go as follows- General, Advanced, Driver, Details and Resources.

this goes for both.

i would click on resources. and that window would freeze. turn blank. i would then have to right click the tab thing down at the bottom of the screen, right click+ close, re-try and the same thing happends.

i was told ot check every category to make sure nuthing was shutting off on its own or that the option to be turned of wasnt checked.

and those 2 i can not check.

I can guarantee you it's a driver issue. You still didn't describe exactly what CD came with it. Tell me EXACTLY what it says on the CD.
