OS, XP service pack 2, camera Olympus d-550zoom, using Camedia 4.3 master. The software will not recognize the cam. when I plug it in. It's in device manager, the disconnect pops up in the task bar. Properties of the disconnect window it shows up as location 0, usb mass storage device. If I remember correctly, when I installed it on previous installs of XP, it added a new drive in my computer, but no drive this time.

Any ideas why it won't show now?

Or is there software I can use, just to download the pics?

You can always copy and paste or cut and paste.

There's no drive in my computer to copy and paste from.

Let me rephrase that. Copy and paste the pictures from your camera to wherever you want on your harddrive. You said your camera comes up as a mass storage device (that's the way my dad's Olympus comes up also). All you have to do is go to my computer, find the device, copy pictures, voila. Unless I'm misunderstanding you somehow, in that case, I don't know.

Hmm, Ive also got an Olympus. I never use software for it though. Try uninstalling the software and plug in the camera. Once it recognizes it go to My computer/whatever the camera drive is called and search that drive for the pictures. And make sure you are turning the camera on when plugging it in :p
Thats all i can think of for now, Hope that helps!

Again, there's no drive in my computer to copy and paste from. It only shows up in the disconnect window as usb mass storage device. There's no mass storage device in my computer with it's own drive letter.

Oh, I guess I didn't quite understand your post then.

Have you tried to reformat the card in the camera? Have you tried to remove the driver from control panel (while the device is connected)? This will re-install the device.

You may also check out to see if Olympus has the drivers for connecting it or if your camera came with a CD, it is more than likely on there.

The same thing happened to my MuVo (MP3 player) and I ended up having to toss it in the trash.

I removed everything in device manager associated with it. It will only reinstall with xp's native drivers. It shows up under disc drives, storage volumes, and under usb controllers as usb mass storage device. It doesn't show up in control panel under scanners and cameras.

The only software is the camedia that I updated from Olympus version 4.3 master. This is supposed to contain the driver. If I recall it showed up in my computer with it's own drive letter on previous installs of XP. But no drive in there, and the camedia software doesn't recognize it to download the pics.

Could it be alcohol 120% is causing problems? I'm only using 25 of the possible 31 virtual drives. I don't know what else to try. I even removed the software and reinstalled it with no help at all.
