Are your sound drivers installed? Are your speakers plugged in? Are your speakers on? Is the Windows volume turned down? Is the volume iniTunes turned down/off?

sound drivers are basically the rules that your speakers run by in the computer. You need the right sound driver to be able for the speakers to work properly. Just type in your speaker's model and then "driver" and you should come up with something. It most likely works for turning on and off because windows is using a default setting.

Post the name and model of the speakers here and maybe we could help?

Speakers dont' run off drivers, sound cards do. All he has to do is type in his motherboard manufacturer and model number and download the drivers. It's just like a video card. When you get a new monitor, you dont install new drivers for the monitor, you install the drivers that came with your video card so it knows how to send info to your monitor. To put it simply, speakers and monitors and such are plug and play, but your motherboard needs "drivers" or "instructions" on how to send that info out.
