Whenever I try to play a Media Player video or a DVD video is is always very bright. I checked the color config thing and it was all normal. Also when I play mpg files nothing it wrong.
it would sound like a codec issue if there weren't dvds involved.
it sounds like the color space config for WMP is way off. something to do with the YUV, specifically if i had to guess.
uninstal WMP and re-install it. see if that does the trick
Tryed that, I had wmp 10 and now I have 11. The color is off for regular videos and dvd's.

try Winamp instead of WMP.
winamp=phail
download VLC player instead. plays pretty much everything
I have winamp but that dosen't play dvd's does it?
it should fix codec issues if that the problem.
it has it's own set of dedicated codecs. it odesn't pull the codecs you already have on your hard drive (which may be currupted)
it'll play pretty much any codec and format too

Why would he need to wipe his hard drive with a restore install just to fix his color?
Try using a different monitor, and if that doesn't work, reinstall your video card's or motherboard's video drivers. They should be on the CD that came with your computer, otherwise it if's a mainstream card, just download them from www.ati.com or www.nvidia.com depending on what you have.

I don't have a video card. Also I've used 2 different monitors.

he wouldn't. you're thinking of formatting. restoring it just flashes your system files.
