Ok. I just got a bunch of Trojans out of nowhere ( junk email probably) and I can't get rid of it. Here's the info I'm getting from the SBC Yahoo! Anti-Spy:
1. TrojanDownloader.Win32.Zlob.ci --- downloader --- hkey_local_machine \software\microsoft\curren....
It's supposed to, "Retrieve and install additional files, often without the users consent or knowledge. I can't even find it.
2. SpywareQuake 2.0 --- Trojan --- C:\WINDOWS\system32\1024
I deleted this one, but it came back a minute later.
3. Trojan.WIN32.StartPage.adh --- homepage hijacker --- hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\curren....
Can't find this one either.
Can any of you guys help me get rid of this? It's causing me extreme pop ups and making my browser act wierd, asking me questions even when I click the "never show this again" box. Does anybody know how to delete this? Removing it via the anti-spy doesn't work.

Do you have system restore on ? Turn it off when cleaning so they cant come back . Try going into safe mode and deleting the files .

Problem is that I can't find the 1st and 3rd file. I hopefully completely deleted the 2nd one, simply by deleting and then emptying the recycling bin.
the HKEYS are registery entries that point to files. you need to boot to safemode.
click on start -> run type- regedit click ok
search the registry for the hkeys and delete them, then search the HD for the files they pointed to.
BE WARNED your delete the wrong key i will futz up windows.
safe side get a good spyware program like spybot and ad-aware, then run a ativirus program Trendmicro (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/) has a nice one and its a free online one too.
but, until the HKEYS and related files are gone the bug will keep reloading its self

I don't know where to find the registry, so I was just thinking, since my computer needs it, how would I just reboot and delete all the programs off my computer so that it will be just like when I got it?
unless you really want to reload the system I would atleast try the trendmicro link.
but if you want to reload. block out a 2-3 hour window of time (will vary, depends on how much you have to install) back up the important stuff, find your install cds. put the XP disk in the drive reboot the machine, when the installer comes up then off you go. once xp is backup and running then install your other programs, up date windows.
if your machine is a dell, or hp, or some other off the self brand then there is a chance that when you reboot you can hit F11 and the recovery deal will come up.
if all else fails see what your documentation that came with your pc says.
either way you will loose everything and I mean everything, it will be just like when you took it out of the box. so if there is something you want to keep, then back it up. before you put it back on the pc make sure you have an avirus installed and updated, all the windows updates are on.
if you want a tip to a good ainto virus try the free avg. i love it and it updates constantly. also you can get linux and not have the problem anymore lol j/k. just re-format like bubba said.

Will that TrendMicro link delete it or just detect it?

Well. I tried that Trendmicro deal, and it worked got some stuff, but my computer is still acting up. If I totally wipe my computer clean, would I be able to still have my precious library of music on iTunes if I reload it and transfer from the iPod? Is that possible? Because that's the only thing that I would need to keep. Everything else I can reinstall.
you may have an issue reloading the DRM licence, its the nice peice of software that locks the MP3s you buy off iTunes to you pc. I would back it all up to CD's and your ipod just to make sure.
if you dont pay, and have just ripped your cd's to the itunes you will be fine, either way when you relaod itunes you put your music back in the right folder and iTunes will rebuild the list for you.

well actually if all you want to do is re-install xp. then all you have to do is save it to a music file on your c drive. what will happen is when you re-install windows it wont take any material off the c drive but only the c drive. so just save all your music directly into c. reinstall windows and bam when you install it go into my computer and into c everyting should be there. repartitioning the computer is a dif story and youll LOSE everything.

I would like to back them all up on CD's, but the problem is that I have over 650 songs, some from CD, but most are just downloaded through Limewire. I have friends that come and get music from my computer, and then just go and it auto-loads onto their computer from the iPod. Couldn't I just do that?
yup, should tranfer just fine then. but I would back up to cd's to be safe. might drop and bust the ipod, now that wouldnt be good.
on the XP install that sk8r is talking about is a repair, if you completly reinstall xp as a new install (witch is the best way) it will format the drive that xp is on. removing any trace of the old system. with the repair option there is a chance that the bug will stay.

Ok how would I go about reinstalling XP. Do I have to delete all my programs first? Do I just put the disc in and it does it automatically?

Ok, so I figured it out and I did the repair program, which took an hour or and hour and a half, and now I'm stuck. I have to activate the Windows now, and there is no way to on my computer because you have to be logged on to access the internet.

NO. When I go to log on, it tells me that my Windows has not been activated, and that I need to activate it. Only problem is that it can't detect my internet because I have to be logged onto an account in order to access the internet.
