Dont know much about that particular unit, but I can tell you that any IBM Thinkpad or Sony Vaio will treat you very well.

They will treat my very well but make my wallet suffer a ecoma(spelling?)
Looks like a pretty good unit. Have you checked out the Presario line by Compaq?

If all you're doing is internet...It has a Celeron M, probably at 2ghz. And I think most lappy hdd's are 5,000 rpm but i'm not sure.

Indeed most Laptop HDDs are 5K RPM. My suggestion would be to go to Best Buy, and run the Direct X Diagnostic. Not only will that tell you what the CPU clock speed is, it will tell you what the RAM and GPU are. Just be aware, that if the computer is doing anything else at all when Direct X scans the different components, the RAM and CPU clock will come out slightly off. Just remember that RAM comes in multiples of 8 (8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024 [1GB]), and you should be fine.
Now, as to how to run it, you open the start menu, and click Run. In the little dialog box that opens, type "dxdiag" (minus the qoutes of course), and click run. A box might pop up asking for permission or somesuch, but it's fine, just hit OK. In a couple minutes (possibly less), you'll have all your info. You will have to click on the display tab at the top of the window to view the GPU info though, so make sure you do that too.
the intel 390 celeron is a 1.7 ghz cpu, the ati graphics in embeded, and the ram is shared with the system ram. Almost all notebook drives are 5400rpm

also, if you are going to game with this, you might want to save up some more and get a lappy with some more umph in the gaphics area, but if its for school and such then that would be just fine.

Ack! even worse! A 1.7ghz Celly! Go with a Pentium M or a Centrino. Those = good. Besides having higher clock speeds, they have larger memory caches and higher FSB speeds.
Geez.....if I would have just read the whole thread. I would have responded more inline to the question :o.
What about the AMD Sempron or 64 for notebooks?

My dad's AMD Sempron Compaq V2000 is nice.
I have the V2552US model and it's very nice for the money. I highly recommend upgrading the memory, I installed a 1 gig stick on top of the 256 and it's lightning fast now! After all rebates I payed roughly $415 for mine.

what can i add on top of the 512 installed on this laptop I saw it yesturday I have plans on buying it
Get a Athlon 64 laptop. I strongly suggest the Athlon 64 because they do make that big of a difference!

It looks like it can handle up to 2 gigs of memory.

I dont like them at all.
I plan to build my own dell and have 1 gig ram and 60 gig hard drive 1.4 gHz 667 mHz bus
Not sure wither to get XP home edition or Media edition
if you really want to build your own take a look at this (http://www.legitreviews.com/article/264/1/)
But with some new standards that are coming out for lappy's from intel (http://www.legitreviews.com/article/353/1/) will make custom builds nicer.
