well i heard from a friend i can get the original CS from www.steampowered.com and i downloaded the program and its telling me i have to buy CS. but i know i can get the download for free from them.

so my main question is has anyone downloaded the original CS? (im looking to have something to play with friends afterschool)

"Steam, Valve's new content delivery program, is the only program you will need in order to play Counter-Strike and any Valve game available. Steam will automatically install and keep all of your favorite Valve games up to date. So what are you waiting for? Grab Steam and start playing Counter-Strike! "

straight from the download page on the counterstrike download page.

CS isn't free. (at least not legally, if you wanna get a cd-key gen. go for it.) You can buy Condition Zero for $15 and it comes with counter-strike. Or buy the Valve value pack for $20, and you get Half Life 1, Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, Ricochet, Blue Shift, and TFC. Either way, CS is definatly worth every penny.

CS is deffinently cheaper than any of the Battefield games, and is more fun in my oppinion. It has a faster pace, and if everyone is working together, more challenging.

the nice thing about battlefield is its not jsut a shoot em up game, you can fly planes, drive jeeps, tanks, and other stuff too.
