Do's and don'ts:
Don't get a dell. They suck. They are over-priced, and, unless you get the super-high-end ones, all the components are probably dell off-brand.
Do build your own.
Don't get a celeron.
Don't get a mach speed motherboard.

Could you tell me why i shouldn't be getting these though?
All this seems very confusing. I just need to know why some things are junk and why others are not.

Dell computers usually have SOME off-brand components, and are very cheap quality. You should build your own because it is usually a lot cheaper, and you can use just the parts you want. Don't get a celeron because they fool you into thinking that they are fast by having a high clock speed (i.e. 2.8 ghz) but very low FSB (133mhz, this is the, for lack of a better word, core speed of a processor. The multiplier multiplies this to get the clock speed) and a low cache size, usually only 128 kb (the size of the processor's internal memory) And mach speed and pc chips motherboards are very cheap products, and come with crappy chipsets (usually a via or pc chips brand). The chipsets that you want are the nForce series.

Built this for a buddy of mine recently. All in all, a very cheap upgrade.
Gigabyte K8NE mainboard, s754, LAN, Serial ATA, Nforce3 250 chipset.
AMD Sempron 2800+ S754.
2x512MB Legend branded ram (runs very well overclocked, uses Hynix D43 chips= :rollin: )
XFX 6600GT 256MB PCI-Express
Some case, GTR I-Cute I think with 400W power supply and multiple case fans (blue LED)
Yep, performs pretty damn well for the price, makes me wish I had a better second computer in the downtime of my main rig atm....BIIIIIGG upgrade in the works :D

Could you translate that to ''noob'' language? Everything seems like a bunch of numbers to me right now.
I need to know what all that stuff is and what purpose it serves.

Gigabyte motherboard: had ports for serial ATA, used for fast hard drives. It has the nforce 3 chipsest, which is very good. This controlls lots of the functions. The AMD sempron 2800+ is the processor. This processor will run at the Intel speed of 2.8 ghz (or around there). That means that if intel clocked that processor, they would clock it at around 2.8 ghz. I really hope you know what RAM is...but that is a nice set he has there. The xfx 6600GT 256 mb is a NICE card. It is pci-e, which is the latest slot technology.
