well, i have never been a big gamer, quite frankly i have never been able to beat a single one, its more my sister with button pushing skills at the old N64 we had. but once i heard that the new Gran Tourismo 4 had 650+ cars, including the Ford Lightning, i knew i had to have it!
so i head out, withdraw some cash, and look for it at the local walmart. lo and behold, neither game nor system. so i drive across the street in the pouring rain to Gamestop, where they have GT4, but no PS2. i decide to buy it now, since i was there and was determined to pick it up anyway.
now ihave the awesome game, but no platform! how can places be sold out? didn't it release like 3+ years ago?!?!?!?!?! the guy at gamestop said they expect some in by the end of the week, but wasn't too sure if there were any PS2's in the orders... doh!
well, fortunately i have an RC and 1:! car loving compadre that i can go to and borrow his PS2, he wants to drive the game too.
i guess i'll try my hand at this gaming thing that seems to be so popular. i figure i can use the PS2 as a DVD player too, keep it in my room or put it on the big TV sometimes tooi want to get San Andreas later, seems pretty cool, but i'm not willing to throw down another $55 for a video game any time soon.

I have the small PS2 because my other one broke, it is awesome, and worth getting because it comes with online compatibility already, GT4 is an awesome game! Also, San Andreas is very addicting, I wouldn't play DVD's on your PS2 if yoiu don't have to, it wears them out quicker, but I know some people that have had no problems running dvd's in them, but I heard around it will end the life of your ps2 sooner
i had my old ps2 since they came out and i played dvds in it all the time and it ran fine till it fell of a shelf lol, SA is easily one of the best games ive bought, tis just soo good , and sooo well made aswell
oh, i had no idea playing DVDs in it would kill it sooner. i'll try to keep that to a minimum i suppose. i have played the game at my friends house, and i live the realism, especially watching the replays of my horrible driving and stupid antics.
i left the game with my friend since i had no way to use as of yet, but i hope to pick one up soon, maybe today.
^^i think i may only affect some of the first ones but i have never heard this before

Oh, that may be true, I played some dvd's on mine, but I heard this from a retailer a while ago at circuit city or something, also, remember to always keep your PS2 atleast a foot above ground, or after a while, it will start to suck in dust and fibers and kill itself

I love my ps2, i have the original, i like it cuz it has a fan and i can play for 15 hours straight hehe, but when ever i open the drive it rattles like its dirty or something, idk whats wrong with it, ive cleaned it out with canned air ( expansion bay, drive, controller/ memory card inputs) everything, vents, yet it still rattles, it still works but it cant be good. congrats on getting ps2, i dont have gt4, but i heard its awesome.

I dont understand how playing dvd's will wear them out faster?
Does it spin them at a higher RPM or something?

What I'm thinking is that if you like play a couple games like for a bout an hour or 2, then yoiu watch say 2 movies, which is like 4 hours, there you have 6 hours of PS2 time, and with the DVD's the PS2 doesn't have a break, its constantly processing stuff, thats what I think.

I've got the old PS2 and I haven't had any trouble out of it except it stopped playing my Grand Theft Auto Vice City game. I don't like the SlimLine PS2's they had to cut down on some minor graphics to make the case smaller and the flip-top is easier to break. I believe I will run to the store tomorrow and get some canned air and clean my fan and drive. It really is starting to look kinda bad. BTW if you stand it up it tends to breath a whole lot better and I see a vast difference in graphics and loading when I'm playing. I guess the cooler it is the faster it plays. I love GTA: San Andreas and NFSU:2 they are sweet. As for GT4 I don't like it that much. I believe that Midnight Club3 and GT3 are way better.

How do you figure? I have an original PS2 and the new slimline PS2 and there is no difference between the two graphics wise. The new PS2 has advantages over the original, smaller, portable, much quieter, and has built devices that are options for the original.
The slimversion is quieter because theres no biult in FAN!
Kap, keep your ps2 standed up, it makes it so the laser stays out, but if you have it layed down, the laser tends to sink down over a while, then you get crap play.. or always glitches... A dvd on a PS2 wont kill it faster. A dvd played on a ps2, sounds like crap.
GT4 is awsome. I own it.
Grand theft auto: San andreas.. or the series.. there all the same, missions, like.. Pic her up go drop her off.. Or blow that up, then pic up this guy drive him to his house.. Or just drive around... Also, The Mercenaries, is like a Driver type game, and Grand theft auto, You can blow stuff up, get contracts, more realistic. ECT..
Get the good, SONY Mem. Card..< I think its like 45 bucks, like 30 ish US money.. Don't get the cheap 2 for 15 dollar deal.. They will loose ALL your memory, in short times. It has happend to me a couple times... I've had the expensive mem. card for 3 years, and, it hasnt crapped out, I've had my ps2 for 3 years, watch dvds, play it LOTS.. and stuff, its in great playing order... But, if you dont always keep it standed up, later on when the laser starts to sink down, you'lle regret not standing it up :)

That's a given :alien:. I was refering to the loud(when compared to the new one) drive motors for disc spinning and laser movement.

lol, thats mine too evaderaor, hate when that happens.
Yeah, im gonna buy one anyways.
My PS2's drive still rattles a little bit when it opens, idk why. And i heard that if you use it standing up, it ruins the dics.

Nope. I've had my GTA:San Andreas in there since it came out. I just took it out today to play ATV OffRoadFury:3. And the disk has NO scratches what-so-ever. I believe that the stand up mode is the way to go. Oh BTW for the guys with the original PS2 the little PS sign on the disk tray can be turned to be seen correctly while standing up. LOL just thought I would let yall know.:toocool:

Also, who cares about sound of disc spinning, when you got surround sound to the max? You can't really hear anything when im tuned into games :) the sound is roaren.
