I dont know much about them, although my computer is wirelessly connected to my moms computer, it still pretty fast but sometimes loses connection even though we have cable and isnt as fast as a direct connection but it was free from my uncle and it works fine.

Ok...I'll try and explain this. My brothers room has his pc. It also has the WIRED router and the DSL modem. I am typing this from my pc in my room. My pc and my ps2 are connected with ethernet cables going to the router in my brother's room. Our internet is fine and everything is great.
Now I just found out you need a wireless router to have a wireless access point for your PSP. So is there any way I can share a WIRED network(what i have now) with a wireless router? Or can I somehow connect my psp to my wired router? I tried to make it as not-confusing as i could.

can you not get a wireless router and connect it to your pc so you have your own little wirless network between ur pc and the psp?

yes a WiFi and Wired networks can reside together. if all you need is an access point to you can get a wifi access point and plug that into you LAN switch.

now, by adding this "hot spot" to your network you are not the only one that will see it. so take all the steps needed to make sure that you are the only one that can get into the network.

So I buy this wireless access point(Is there another name for it?) And plug it into my WIRED router? Then set it up so I get a wireless network? Would I have to get a wireless network card for my pc in my room, or can I leave my pc on the wired network and have the PSP be the only thing on the wireless network?

We have a wireless system at our house. I don't know that much about it, but I do know how we basically have it set up. We have the wireless thing connected to the wired router, then we have a wireless card in our computer. SMC (I believe that is what we have) is a great company. Haha, that probably doesn't help much, but that is basically what you will want. Although I'm not sure about the PSP.

what you have is your wired pc to the internet, than you buy the wireless acess point and plug this into your wired router, than you set up the connection and you have a wireless network,

im not sure how you connect the psp as in is it a built in wireless card?,

you can get something like this http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=35&prid=563 to hook into your current switch.

like this.. ftp://ftp.linksys.com/qinstalls/wap11_v28_qi.pdf

Where do I put this? Into the switch? Whats a switch?

the switch or hub.... its the little box you have all the cat5 (network) cable pluged into for your wired network.

as for placement in the house, I would put it next to your switch/hub, you are good to about 500ft from that point.

I just read through this quick, and may have missed something, but why don't you just replace your current router with a wireless one?

Chances are you can get a router identical to your current one, with the addition of wireless connectivity, for less than $50.

My brother doesnt want to ruin the current setup. (We dont have good luck with getting internet to work successfully.) I dont want to make him mad. He'd go buckwild if I screwed it up again.
