Hello, as some of you may know, I'm seriously looking into getting a new computer. I'm pretty sure that building one is out of the question because I don't feel that comfortable with using that much money and assembling it myself. I don't feel like I have enough experience. I also haven't heard good things about Dell and gaming... If I'm wrong, please correct me, I would like to remain cheaper... Anyways, I was looking at AlienWare PC's (http://www.alienware.com/ for people who haven't heard of 'em). My total was 2,428.00 USD with a Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra and 2,306.00 USD with a Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT. My question is, what's the difference between them to create such a big price gap and which one will I want for my applications (gaming and school/work.) I'll be doing some pretty heavy gaming and would definately like to be able to run Final Fantasy XI Online. Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you for your time.

The GT is an Ultra with lower speed grading, or in other words the GT core speed is 350mhz versus the Ultra's 400mhz. Also, the video ram is lower grade on the GT, running at 1000mhz versus 1100mhz.

Basically, there is a moderate difference in game frames/second, but both cards have pretty huge performance anyway. Both will run all games with ease, just the 6800Ultra will be a tad faster. Anyways, I have a GT, and can easily surpass both the core and ram speeds of an Ultra by simply using a windows tuning software.

Thats that. Could I ask what else you included in the system you specified above? If you list the lot, we forum members can tell you if you can cheapen/speed and optimise your PC.

Alright, well I might be going off again and building my own, found someone nearby who could possibly help me, but anyways, I'll get a basic list of what I want up soon. Probably after school though.

Hey, when you get a 15% discount (or so) on them, can't help it. If they carried AlienWare at the store I'm buying at, I'd get it.

So ur buying Intel for gaming.....thats like buying a pickup truck to carry 15 tonnes of sand.....it may work but itll be pretty bad.

Even getting a store to build ur comp from parts is cheaper than those rip-off merchants Dell...

Meh, not like I'm going to be going all out anyways, I still love StarCraft even... Plus, I live in the middle of nowhere, don't have any stores that carry parts or build them, and I don't want to get a whole computer shipped unless I have to :/ .
