You guys may have noticed I haven't been around URC for a while. This is true. I haven't even pulled out the B4 in over a month. Why? Well, I couldn't afford to. I've been saving up for a few months now and am now officially ready to replace my aging Pnetium III 733 mhz machine. See attached image.

It's an Athlon64 3200+ processor with a gig of RAM. I'm using a cheap motherboard until I'm convinced that my mobo is the bottleneck of the system. The power supply you see is 500 watts in an acrylic case with sleeved, UV-reactant cables and dual 80 mm blue LED fans with a speed controller. I also picked up an NEC dual-layer 16x DVD+R drive. I'll be using the DVD-ROM from my current computer along with my floppy and hard drives (170 and 25 gigs), and GeForceFX5200 (crap) video card.

Needless to say, it should eb a step up from what I'm running now. Heh. I still need to get the beta of Windows XP 64-bit Edition as well as the 64-bit edition of Mandrakelinux 10.1

The RAM and DVD burner are coming from Newegg.com, along with this (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11-196-005&catalog=23&manufactory=BROWSE&depa=0) case:

I hope to be around more often soon, guys. :)

 Actually, it's a jet-shaped thing that starts to turn once the fan behind it turns. Pretty cool-looking, I think. :)

Although you make me think...perhaps I should've kept the turbo from my old car...

She's done. Nearly killed myself when it didn't work the first time I turned it on. Spent a few hours playing with stuff before realizing I had wired in the on/off switch incorrectly. After that, it still wouldn't work until I cleared the CMOS and reseated the RAM.

This computer is very, very fast. My old computer calculated the first million digits of pi in 3 minutes and change, as I recall. This one does it in 42 seconds. :)

Still needs some work, notably cable-neatening as well as a rear exhaust fan, but other than that, it's pretty much good to go. I'm downloading the 64-bit edition of Mandrakelinux as I type, although I haven't yet decided if I want to try the beta of Win XP 64-Bit Edition. I'm quite wary of giving personal information to Micro$oft.

Gday, nice looking and spec'd rig. May I ask, what socket cpu and what model name mainboard did you buy? A 3200+ in skt939 should get a little better that 42sec superpi, and so too a 754 3200+, considering that my 3000+ comes in at a little over 34sec (with ram tweaking mind).

I can help you tweak that A64 if you want.

It's a crap ECS 755-A2 socket 754 motherboard.

Tweaking would be nice, but nothing that's going to make this computer last less than 5 years. :)

Nice case! Btw. where did you ge those fans? The LEDs in the fans in my case look way duller than that.

No ammount of tweaking will degrade its lifetime.

penguin, the fans came with the case, but I think they're commercially available under the Aerocool name. I'm not particularly fond of them, though, as they're fairly loud, fairly inefficient, and this weird shade of blue that doesn't match the fans on my psu.

Westoz, then let's tweak away.
