Noticed that I haven't been purchasing much R/C stuff lately? It's 'cuz I'm saving for my 3.2 ghz Athlon64 wonder-puter.

Once I get it, though, I'd like to build my current compy into my car. I don't plan to be doing any *serious* gaming inside my car, so I wouldn't mind underclocking it to reduce fan noise (entirely?). It's a P3 at 733...could I drop it to 500 and delete the fan, or at least use a quiet one? Watercooling is not an option,.

Any suggestions welcome.

If you drop it that low then a nice copper fin cooling block should work just fine.

If it will fit, use a 120mm case fan. Because they are so much bigger, they can move more air at lower RPMs.

Lower RPMs == quieter fan ^_^

Also, you might want to look into some sort of speed control for your fans. Either a manual one, with knobs or digital adjustment, or (if you're feeling lazy ;) ), an automatic temperature sensing one.

recommend an extreme surface area which could be unviable, thus there is still active cooling needed. Underclocking does next-to-nothing with cpu wattage output, you really need to underVOLT the cpu to be able to run lesser cooling solutions. Thus, undervolt and then test for stability with Prime95 (google for it) which is a windows based stress tester. In options, click stress test and use test #2. U may have to lower ur clock to run lower voltages (if ur bios even supports it).
