I bought a computer with a pentium 3 (only 850MHZ)and an ATI RAdeon 2600 and I wanted to buy another pentium 3 that has 1.2ghz. Would I need a whole new motherboard? Heres the one that I want to buy: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14292&item=6732507828&rd=1 Also, if I wanted to buy maybe a pentium 4 later on, what would I need? (besides a new power supply?)? Thanks for your help!
Edit: Also, do you think that it's a good deal? (it's kinda an off brand) But it's a pentium 3 with a nice graphics card, and eternet, and all the goodies. It doesnt come with a monitor, but i'm getting a flat-screen one for free. I am buying it for $230.
look at your mother board specs, find the model number and hit the maunfacturers site.
if its a socket 370 and can handle that high of cpu you'll be good to go.
when you go P4 you will need a new Main Board and PSU 400w or better

It's a slot 1, not socket 370, but there are converters to make a slot 1 to socket 370. Ya, I wa looking at tiger direct and ebay and you can get a pentium 4/motherboard deal for somewhers areound 60-80 bux for a 2.4gHz

Ya, I'm looking at a nice AMD chipset that's 2.6~GhZ. The guys who I bought my compy from lied to me. Firrst off, they told me that the processer was 733Mhz, and the computer just "said" that it was a 500Mhz. I was a little curious, so I opened er up, and I typed in the serial number on the chip. Turns out that it was only 500Mhz. Then, just to check, I downloaded CPU-z (tells you everything about your computer's hardware) and it said 500MhZ. The other thing that they lied to me about was my RAM. They told me tha it had 256MB. It only had 192. So, I'm going to ask for my money back and build my own AMD based compy with ATI Radeon 9250, a nice LCD monitor (my uncle gave me a ViewSonic LCD one, he couldn't use it. What a shame :) ), an ASUS motherboard, and some other nice hardware for $322, including a cool acrylic case that's crystal clear and lit by cold cathode lights, with 5 fanports.
