Ok. I just got an OLD computer. It's from 1999. I have a Compaq Presario Monitor. Nothing really special. So, I plugged the cord nito the back of the monitor and into the back of the computer [and spun those little sinning things on the sides of the plug in] Then I plug the computer and the monitor in the socit. And got the keyboard and mouse hooked up. But when I hit the computer it turns on and starts up and everything, but...the monitor just stays black. The little green light then goes yellow and thats it. I can get it to work. Any help would be a appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm using an old Compaq V50 monitor right now. This kinda thing happens to it all the time. I just lift mine up a couple of inches on the right side, and drop it. I know it sounds reckless, but it usually goes back to normal. I also hit mine sometimes. That works too.
Might wanna listen to what some other people say before you try this though. I have no idea what I'm talking about. I just know that my monitor goes back to normal when I hit it.

one day when i was using my computer my screen just clicked off. i thought we had a power surge or the power went out, but my comp and everything else was still running. i tried playing with the monitor's power button for a while, and restarted the computer many times. my screen just decided to die on me. piece of junk.

maybe your monitor is just getting cozy on its death bed.

when my light turns yellow that means its in sleep mode, have you tried moving the mouse around or touching a key? If so the moniter might be shot, so you might as well do as minion suggested

That could be it to. I've had 2 or 3 monitors just die on me.

Alright. I tried moving the mouse around. But nothing. I dropped it like minion said. Well the results: It started working for about a half hour and then the same thing. My friend is a computer expert andhes going to open it up and fix it. Anyways thanks a lot for your help.

I know this sounds like a stupid question... but you can't overlook the basics.

Have you checked to make sure the monitor is switched on properly?

You don't mention it anywhere  .

well, i did check that. i also checked the connection from the monitor to the brain, i thought thats what the problem was... but it the monitor just went kaput.

luckily my friend had an extra he was gonna sell at a garage sale, and the night before i picked up a gallon of nitro for him from the LHS, so he gave me the monitor for a gallon of fuel.

Yeah I checked that. So, today I got it back, my friend said I need to get a new monitor. Appears that when my brother was using it, it gor burnt because he used to leave it on all day. Same thing happened with my Lap Top. Anyways, Thanks again for the help and input.

just another case showing that dell owns all other pre-built computer companies, ive had my p3 for around the same time or longer, and it in total time of not being used has been turned off maybe a month or so over the 5+ years ive had it. =P. Just go buy a cheapo at bestbuy or online. Maybe if your parents dont know anything its a good chance to get a new computer!!! =P anyways goodluck
