It adds functionality to the xbox...I'm not going to go any deaper. i broke my xbox putting one in.

It makes it where u can basically save games to your hard-drive. But most people buy another hard-drive to be able to save more games to the hard-drive.

I have one for my xbox. And when I borrow a game from blockbuster I copy the game on the xbox hardrive. So i never need the disc again. I can copy dvds mp3s games and more onto the harddrive without needed the discs. So otherwise you dont need to buy games. When you start the xbox up you come to a menu that says MP3S DVDS GAMES BURNER. For 50 bucks and another 50 bucks for a 2gig hardrive you can get it online.

IF you dont put a switch in and try to access XBOX live, microsoft will pick it up and prevent that XBOX from ever accessing XBOX Live again so you have to be able to put a switch in that lets you flip between normal and modded, that is, only if you intend to use XBOX live

Well not really putting one in isn't illegal but putting software to do all the stuff named above is...that is how companies are allowed to make and sell the mod chips.

Chipping an XBOX to back up games isn't illegal. I own the XBOX, it's my property therefor I can do whatever i want to it. Microsoft were just being tools by making it hard for everyone.

I have one of the orignal Xecuter chips, the one were you had to solder like 15 points onto the board. It works pretty well, but is starting to freeze now.

Its not illigal to put the games on your hard drive if you own them because you are 'backing them up'
As for going to blockbusters and saving thier game, that is.
(not saying that when i build up the money i also will be getting a chip for my xbox and my ps2 and do exactly the same to add to my colection of copied games!)
