hey guys,
i came across this program that works out PI to 33.55 million digits!
It can be used as a benchmarking tool in that the faster your CPU the faster (less seconds) it will take to work out PI.
So my idea for this thread is to post your computer setup and your time for 1M digits
:)
the guy with the fastest CPU (yes it can be overclocked) will get the least time.
heres the link, the program is very small and doesnt install so its safe.

Mediocre I know, but oh well, the dang thing's 4 years old!

^Nice time!:D
I ran this at school on the 2.4 celeron computers and it took 3mins 45seconds to do the 1M..........yay for celerons:d
Thanks to James the Great because i closed all my other programs apart from internet explorer and got 59seconds:)
yup, closed some programmes and shaved it down to 46, still dont beat westoz racer's time though!

yeh dude! i need a setup like WESTOZ racer, overclocking rules.
What cooling are you using for you processor WESTOZ racer?
Is your AMD one of those ones which are multiplyer unlocked and for use in laptops?

3min 43sec
PIII 600mhz
Dual Monitors (both @1024x768, one 32bpp, one 24bpp)
WinXP Pro
I didn't do anything special to free up resources. I had Trillian Pro (connected to one Yahoo and one MSN account, two chat windows open), WinRAR (with the super_pi.zip archive open) the Windows Task Manager, and a couple of Internet Explorer windows open.
Here's the kicker... this beast only has 128mb of RAM!!! :(
(of that 128mb, 100mb is used by merely starting the computer  )
2min 42 sec halla i have no clue what i got in my comp all i know is that its a compaq and made cheap by my dads friend

Ye megahurtz, I run a Thermaltake Volcano 11+ copper heatsink with a high flow 80mm fan on it. This sits on a standard desktop athlonXP sitting on 2450Mhz as said, with aftermarket thermal paste. Its not too bad a chip, but i really want a mobile athlon. Some people get 3gig on them under the right cooling.
Some people reckon my cpu is pretty hot, but ive tested and the onboard sensors seem accurate in reporting 33c idle cpu, 52c full load which aint bad wen the vcore is at 2.08v. The funny thing is, its still not puting out as much wattage in heat as a stock Prescott hehe.
Edit: tweaked XP pro and got 38 sec 1m test.

Hi again, I just did some testing to see how the AMD and Intel platforms "size up" against one-another. I set my 2500+ to 3200+ spec, and get a mate to run his 3.2ghz pentium4 at stock. How interesting! The results were NOT ONE SECOND OFF! We both got 46sec! It seems AMD's performance ratings are pretty good then.
Now, of course the thing is, my AMD is almost 1/3 of the cost of a similar Intel, runs about the same but games better, but at 1Ghz LESS. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Thats why we all love AMDs:D im gonna run super PI on my old system later on, i just bought a new HDD for it so i can get it up and running again.
WESTOZ racer - Ummm, I do love AMD as well, but its not 1/3rd the cost to build a similar Intel system. You are either exhaturating or don't know what you're talking about (you decide). Or maybe over there for some reason AMD is super cheap.
1M = 46s here
P4 2.4C @ 3.0ghz, 1gb of Geil PC4400 @ 500mhz (1:1 ratio), DFI LanParty Pro875
I could push the thing up to 3.3ghz and probably get 40s or less in time, but I'm happy with it as it is. Its 100% stable and has been this way for quite awhile. Plus it runs really cool with a Volcano 7+ heatsink/fan (fan set to medium speed) and AS3 thermal paste. I know for a fact my mobo is limiting my ram though. Its the first gen of its model series. If I got the last gen (Pro875B) I could push it to 3.4ghz and ram at 550mhz with a 1:1 ratio of memory:cpubus. I should just buckle down and grab the new board or a different new board just to get those speeds.

He was reffering to the processor itself not a system, a 3.2Ghz northwood P4 will cost about £170, but an AMD XP2500+ costs about £60 and it runs as fast as a 3.2 P4 (overclocked)
:)
