He was reffering to the processor itself not a system, a 3.2Ghz northwood P4 will cost about £170, but an AMD XP2500+ costs about £60 and it runs as fast as a 3.2 P4 (overclocked)
:)
Well maybe he should clear it up if that is true, but as such it could read as either the system or the processor.
Also, you can't compare an overclocked processor to a stock clocked processor like that. Maybe for benches, but not for pricing. I could get a 2.4C and overclock it to 3.4ghz and then his comparison would be for nothing (and 3.4ghz is the average possible OC....some have done 3.6ghz).
And even then:
Over here the 2500+ (OEM) is $85 (retail is $100)
P4 2.4C (OEM) is $145 (retail is the same)
$85 / $145 = 3/5, which is more than 1/2 and alot more than 1/3
in retail versions (get the good 3 year warranty):
$100 / $145 = ~2/3, which is more even more than 1/2 and lots more than 1/3
Just making sure its understood that while AMDs are good processors, they aren't super duper cheap anymore.

Why is it not good to compare an overclocked Athlon to a stock 3.2C?? I mean, all that happens is the FSB is pushed to 200, which is EXACTLY the same as a retail XP3200+ (200x11). It would have near exactly the same performance, and most of the 2500+ cpu'd do 3200+ @ stock Vcore, so theres still no diff.
On the last note, yes the gap is smaller when similar ratings are compared, but the 2500+ will still come out on top in everything but media duties and related apps. ITS STILL CHEAPER!!
Hey fellas, I reckon this fanboy is just stickin up a bit for his brand. NP, but I hate people who love their raw ghz and buy Intel to play games. They're so silly :rollin:

Awww, someone doesn't like to read posts clearly. No problem, AMD fanboys tend to do that.
Ummm, I do love AMD as well, but its not 1/3rd the cost to build a similar Intel system.
And you ALSO didn't read my thread where I said you can't compare it for pricing because its overclocked. Try comparing to a lower speed Intel that is overclocked to high numbers, since you are already overclocking the AMD. As I mentioned, in that scenario its not 1/3 cheaper. Still cheap, but not super cheap like you want to think.
*sigh* Fanboys tend to skip over what they don't want to see. Its ok WestOz, we understand.

^ Dude can you please stop being annoying, no-one cares how much you love intel! if you love them that much go work for them.
people who buy:
Intel = noobs who think higher Ghz means faster processor + get ripped by the rediculous pricetags.
AMD = experienced computer users who knows what they want out of a PC and like having a fast PC thats a load cheaper than an intel system.
Sure this is ONLY my point of view, but its shared by a big majority.
.... *sigh*
Kids these days...think they know everything.
I guarantee I have more experience with computers than you do. Trust me, you're the noob here. I was gaming on an Apple IIC when you were just a twinkle in your dad's eye. I was programming games on one when you were learning your ABCs. I've been into computers for a LONG time.
And I'll only say it one more time.....I prefer AMD over Intel. Not the other way around. I'm far from a fanboy as I can't stand people who are(*cough*westozracer*cough*)
Oh well, I thought I would come and help people in this forum, but if you guys all want these 2 clowns to help you....go ahead.

Guys, this is seriously stupid. You're all arguing over computers. Please stop. Thanks.

I'd be perfectly pleased with either platform if it had the performance I need. I just choze this NF7/2500+ combo because they were cheap, and could be pushed up in clock spd quite easily, with performance gains over that of what Intel were offering at the time. Sure, If I had money, I might've purchased a 3.4 prescott and get 4ghz on watercooling loop.
Each to their own.
The comments about people have not gone down well as you can tell, please dont post in that sort of fashion. I didnt.
