I wasnt bashing on nientendo at all infact I have a gamecube. Its all good, I hope things get competitive then all of us can benifit from new advances. It would be sick If the made a specail GTA for PSP and have multiplayer. Look what else I found out from IGN, "PSP features an integrated high output lithium-ion battery that provides a play time of between 4 and 6 hours for game titles and continuous 4 to 5 hours for video viewing". Sweet no need for double batts now. "If it wasnt for Nintendo gaming wouldnt be where its at today, its as simple as that" I dought that! Atari etc know your roots lol

Lets be correct here. 4-6 hours of gameplay IF the disc doesn't need to be used. If the games need access of the disc often, the hours drop to like 3 hours or so. Last I heard about the movie watching was like 4 hours (not a range of 4-6, but just around 4 hours give or take 30 minutes). This was from a recent hands-on preview done in early November/ late October.

Also, Nintendo did get gaming where it is. Sure Atari helped out, but they screwed up at one point and let Nintendo take over. It was some deal where Atari was offered to be the US distributor for the Nintendo system (cuz it was already selling like hotcakes over in Japan). But Atari kept holding off on the deal and eventually Nintendo gave up and decided it would be better to just establish their own place here in America (Nintendo of America) and sell the system under their own name. So not only were they an unknown brand going against Atari, but they had better games as well. Atari effectively screwed up and had nothing to go against the NES, and watched as the NES sold a ton of systems and game developers started moving to the NES.

I bet if Atari didn't let Nintendo take over, we wouldn't be as far along as we are. Atari made decent games, but never revolutionized the industry in terms of hardware. The Atari Lynx wasn't bad as a portable with color, but the battery time wasn't that good and their game selection was far and few. Same problem with Sega GameGear. Thats why Nintendo's GameBoy made it as the king. They had the more established portable with the bigger fanbase and more game support.

Not trying to flame anyone, just wanted to make it clear about the history of gaming regarding Nintendo and Atari, since not many know how it all went down. Atari had their chance and screwed up.

Also, I'm not a fanboy for either one (I have a DS and still plan to get a PSP), but I'm doubting Sony will take over in the handheld market. N64 lost to Playstation1 mostly because Nintendo was still using cartridges, while the Playstation1 used a more common media of CDs. GameCube effectively lost because of the poor sales of the N64 (as well as no DVD drive or DVD movie playback). Sony stole the developers away with the PS1, and so the PS2 was an obvious win. With the handhelds, Nintendo has ALL of them. And granted the DS uses cartriges while the PSP uses 1.8gb discs, the media doesn't matter that much in the handheld world. Aside from that, the only real benefit of the PSP is movie/music playback, which (from a poll taken awhile ago) most gamers don't care that much about. It was like 15% at best actually cared if it had music/movie abilities. Otherwise both have: 802.11b Wireless connections, lithium ion battery packs, color backlit screens, 3D graphics, and the basic d-pad / 4 buttons / 2 shoulder buttons. Nintendo DS goes 1 step further with a 2nd screen (which has proved useful in many games already), touch screen with pen stylus and thumb stylus (thumb one is best for Mario and Metroid...acts just like a joystick in Mario), pictochat built-in program, long battery life while playing games (something like 8 hours), and it has all the developer support. And even beyond that, the DS can play ALL GameBoy Advance titles (only singleplayer though). So aside from the 6 launch titles and 5 or so coming in December, there is a slew of about 200+ GBA titles that you can buy for the DS. Not to mention the GBA accessories like the camera, movie player (where you can slide an SD Card into the device to play movies or music that you have from your computer), etc. Nintendo isn't going anywhere in the handheld market.

*whew*. Well thats my $0.02.

PSP won't always have more games. For one, it doesn't have any yet. Won't have any until March of next year. DS has 6 DS games, 5 coming in December, and a back catalog of over 200 GBA games. Plus there is another 10-15 coming before the PSP even releases. So the DS will already have about 220+ games in its catalog before the PSP comes out. Plus all the developers love Nintendo when it comes to handhelds. And if a GTA comes out, it would likely end up on the DS as well as PSP. The deal Rockstar had regarding being exclusive to Sony, ended with 2004. All games made after this year, can be made on all systems at the same time. And trust me, Rockstar will probably go for it since it means more sales.

Graphics aren't everything. Sure the PSP has better graphics, but gameplay is what really wins. How else do you explain the PS1 beating the N64, which definetely had better graphics than the PS1.

As for the touchscreen (and this goes for 4techpride as well), try it using the thumb-stylus if they left it on the DS. Its a part of the wrist strap that comes with the DS. Otherwise you're right, the pen stylus kind of sucks for controls in Metroid. The thumb-stylus makes it feel right at home. Trust me, I tried Metroid with the pen and was like "crap...if it sucks this bad maybe I shouldnt get the DS", but I bought one anyway and tried it with the thumb-stylus; WORLDS better for gaming. But the stylus is better for other games (like the mini-games that come with Mario64, and for PictoChat).

DUDE! Read the release dates next to each game.

There are only 6 games RELEASED (which is what I said in my posts). More are planned, but only another 4 or so are coming before Christmas, and the rest are coming in 2005.

I have both, and I play the DS alot more! The PSP can do more, but I like the "pickup and play" of the DS better.

I've had both and pushed both to the limit, have modded the PSP and had rewriteable cards for the DS. The PSP will stomp the DS.
