My mom might get us a new computer for my birthday. If she does, I'll get the old one to play games in my room. I was thinking of taking the old computer of mine, keeping some of the stuff (not much) and building a new computer. It would take a long long long time but it could give me something to do. If I do get build one I'd use:

Aspire Black Turbo Case with 350W Power Supply, Model "ATXB2KL/350"
$34.00
Abit "VT7" PT880 Chipset Motherboard for Intel Socket 478 CPU
$64.00
Chaintech nVIDIA GeForce FX5500 Video Card, 256MB DDR, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "SA5500T2"
$93.99
Lite-On SK-1788/BS Standard Black/Silver Keyboard PS/2 104 keys
$5.00
Nyko Air Flo Optical Mouse USB
$15.00
Belkin Nostromo n50 SpeedPad USB
$22.50
Speeze 80mm Clear Crystal Case Fan, Model "FDC08025S1M"
$2.79
Cintre RW-6580D 5.1 Speakers
$35.50
Juster MP-020 Stereo Headset
$7.70
Intel Celeron (Pentium 4 based) 2.6 GHz 400MHz FSB, 128K Cache
$91.00
Sony DVD+RW/-RW Drive, Model DWU18A Black
$71.00

And I'm currently looking for some more stuff to add... any of this stuff good? Any suggestion for other stuff? Remember: Low Budget Gaming PC

unless the cpu in the old computer is a P4 socket 478 youll need a new cpu too. I reccomend the P4 2.4C. Good cpu for the money.

Pliers? Uh... no. :) I think can live without it... besides, I won't be doing online gaming til we get a fast connection hooked up in my room. Just regular gaming here. Anyone who wants to send donations PM me! I doubt I'll ever get this finished if I ever get started, 500 bucks is a lot of money... Am I missing anything to get started? I know I need some RAM... what else?

neon fans!!! ha ha ha!
Seriously though, make sure you dont get a wireless mouse because they have slightly delaid reactions when low on batteries and therefore are pants for gaming.
maybee not neon fans but still you are gonna need cooling.....:

At one of the local electronics store (Fry's Electronics) they are having a deal for a an AMD Athlon XP 2700+ with mobo (don't know which one) for $80!! Too bad I have a 2400+ already. Such a killer deal I thought I would inform you of.

That's cool. I would get it anyways so if I ever built a computer again I'd ahve it if I was you. Also, if I build a computer I decided to get Thermaltake Smartfans instead of the clear ones. They supposedly monitor your systems temp and blow accordingly.

I wouldnt go with a Celeron, find a 400 or 533mhz 2.2 or 2.4 or something, 2.4C if you can afford it. Celerons are crap.

the board you picked is nice, got a lot of neat stuff but for "buget" game machine, ya might want to lean away from the pure SATA platform. that and you can get 2 ATA for the price of the same size in SATA

one other thing to look at is the shear size of the vid card.I run an Antec case nice small built like a tank great for hualing to lans. went to upgrade and I got a 5700 ultra and I lost a drive bay because of the length of the card was almost as wide as the main board, and it has a socket for the external power hook up for the gpu fan. if the case you picked is tight, might want to pick a little bigger case.

as for the cpu fans, unless you plan on overclocking I have never seen the need to get an aftermakert fan.

Where do you get that? Online you can find WD 120gig ATA drives for around $100...and the same drive only SATA.....for $120...
