Doom III ?

Is this game out yet? I just played Doom II (10 yrs. old, I know) but I'm wanting to play Doom III. Any place I can find info on this game? Like what kind of computer you need to play, graphics card, etc.

It's not out where I live anyway. I don't know much about what this game needs to run, but there are rumors that ATI built it's Radeon 9700 specifically for DoomIII. From the looks of it at http://www.doom3.com/ I think that a computer upgrade couldn't hurt.

It's not gonna be out until way in April I think I last read.

And yeah, prepare to upgrade that ol' 500MHZ computer (better yet, sell that to your friend for $700, and buy yourself another 1.5Ghz computer if you want any kind of "playability" out of D3)

I can't wait for it. Hopefully it'll be scary like Quake was when I first played the demo back in '97.

Anthing with an at least 1Ghz (Althon or P4) processor with some good RAM (256MB+) and a GeForce4 card (e.g. GF4 Ti4200 8xAGP 128MB DDR <$100) should be good.

Based on what I've heard, you need a lot more than that. Probably a minumum of a $200 card. But you could be correct. Only time will tell.

I think that it's gonna need more than a 1Ghz.

Perhaps, but it doesn't really matter if the video card is the bottleneck.

Well, honestly, I was using my current setup to ahem.. guessimenate the specs. 1.4Ghz Athlon Xp + 512MB PC133 RAM, 128MB DDR 8xAGp Ti4200, and well, I can run Unreal 2 1024x768x32bit whatever with most options set on full (textures, detail textures, reflections and all the goodies), and shadows on the lowest setting, and I even ran it with 3D Sound ON on my 8 speaker surround for the heck of it :) I get around 30+fps conservatively estimating. It's smooth almost all of the time at least.

So based on that, I estimated a "bare bones" setup like above should be playable. Of course Doom 3 seems to be more advanced in the gfx dept., so a good vid card and lots of RAM will only help, plus a good 10Ghz computer if you can find one........

Now by "playable" with a 1ghz system I mean playable running most options turned low in Doom 3. But yes, time will tell... stupid time.. release the game already iD!!!!! Must... play...!!!!!!

But hey, if my brother can still kick my butt in UT2k3 using a 500Mhz Athlon + GF4 460MX 64MB + 384MB pc100 RAM, and I'm on my 1.4Ghz computer.............well, then UT2K3 must be playable on the 500Mhz system right? (Yes, it quite well is with most options on medium or low, @800x600x32)

Ugh, I think I have a Geforce4 card, I'm lost when you go about the 1.4Ghz(Gighertz?) though.

I'm talking about your CPU, you know, Pentium 4, AMD Althon etc. etc.

As long as you have a fast computer, you can "get by" with setting graphic options to "low" (if any, we'll have to see when the game comes out...)


BTW, you mean DOOM III is only $10 for RESERVING a pre-order copy.. :lol: Which is a concept I have yet to understand as far as video games go... :d Why not keep you friggin' $10 and use that for what you really need (NISMO mag, R/C mag....:lol: ) and wait UNTIL the game comes out, then wait a little more for it to go on sale at Electronica Boutique for $35 and grab it then? :lol: I mean it's not like reserving it is so important.....

Oh... so maybe a Pentium 4 would get it?

I'll have to ask my cousin, he's all into computers and such, he set me up with Doom II back in the day. :p
