For 3 years now, I've had a 32 meg nVidia Riva TNT2 graphics card. Trying to play GTAIII on it was like trying to run Windows on a brick.

So, after a week or so of research, I went to Fry's and bought a PNY GeForce FX 5200 card with dual 350mhz RAMDAC's and 128 megs of DDR RAM. GTAIII runs infinitely better now, dropping a frame every now and then, but that's only because I have the resolution REALLY high. My motherboard can't even support 8x AGP, so it will only get better (if) when I get a new computer.

More importantly, Need for Speed Underground will actually run on this computer now, so it's time for some drifting action! w00t! :D

Moral of the thread: New video cards rock.

I didnt enjoy underground at all, have you played it yet? It may not be what you think it is. At least for me it wasnt.

All of the rest of the NFS games had Lambos, Ferraris, Vettes, Jags, BMWs, Benzs, heck even the McLaren F1. This NFS underground game only has ricers in it...I think. I like my Hot Pursuit 2 better.

Oh, I played it at Fry's and loved it. Drifting an RX-7 around a turn makes that game worth it. vaio, if you don't want it, I'll buy it off of you. :)

Oh, no i dont have it, i played it at a network a couple months ago. It was ok, but i prefer project gotham racing, or midnight club. :), oh yea, nitro bugges+pool=hax0r.

Actually, many ppl mock the FX5200 gpu to death, including me! They just plain suck. Nothin like a cheap GF4 TI, which easily gets about 3000 more points in 3dmark2k1 when running stock mhz. even when u overclock the 5200 to the best of its ability!!!
I hate them.

I have to disagree, for the cost they are a great card.

I've got a GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB DDR 8xAGP. It was about $150 last year. I've not been in the computer "upgrade scene" for about 6 months, but it should be much much cheaper now. On my 1.4GHZ Athlon, and 512MB PC133 RAM, it runs UT2k3, Unreal 2, and and NFS:HP2 with no problems at 1024x768x32bit.

BTW, for the PC version of the game, I think they killed the fun in Hot Pursuit 2. It's all gfx "ooooo aaahhhh" and no tweaking your car like you could before. Hell, they don't even let you play Hot Pursuit in multiplayer!!!! And that's what the game's about for crying out loud!!!! :mad:

If I could change the graphics card in my laptop, I would be all over the GeForce FX. Too bad. My desktops won't even support it. lol

You can't find them in stores anymore, and even on eBay they still hit anywhere from $60 for no-name brands to $100 for decent ones. :eek:

I've got the one from PNY Tech I think. Well, at my GF4 440MX is a PNY...... Well anyway. Man so you can't find 'em anymore huh? Even at Best Buy? It's a good card IMO (The Ti 4xxx's). And yeah I always have this bias against ATI... dunno, since maybe it has to do with the fact that my ATI 128 Xpert 16mb PCI card couldn't really breathe life into my 150MHz computer.... (After I bought Quake 2 hoping to run it smoother than software mode.... Hah!)....) :lol:

Yeah, I'm an ATI guy. Quake II ran fine on my ATI 128 Xpert 16mb PCI card with Open GL.

I LOVE NFSUG!!!! I'm using a miata right now - it's blue and black with level 3 everything (almost) I was disapointed when i got NOS level 3 because it's not that much different than level 2 :( Anyway i love the game! I would imagine the graphics might be a bit better on the computer... let us know!
