Help! All hardware gurus please. I have had a seagate barra4 60g for about a year. It recently just stopped after making strange sounds during booting the pc. I got a warranty replacement and now i cant overclock to what i had before. Usually the ol' palomino cored 1800+ went to 164mhz on the FSB without a glitch (on pc2100 ram too). Since the hdd episode i cannot get the fsb over 138. Help?? Performance really suffering. I have a hunch on dodgy ram, but need more "advise"

A lot of IDE hard drives can't take that kind of overclock to the FSB. You might have gotten lucky with the old hard drive and not so lucky with the new one. Of course, some PC2700 memory might help if it is the RAM. But since that wasn't the problem before it makes more sense that it would be the hard drive since you just replaced it.

well, it seems ill be without a new NF7-s for a little longer. My local parts shop is very slow. I think ill order online. Anyways, anyone else got any ideas? I just cant push the system at all anymore. Darn thing used to run nicely.
As a system builder, I never suggesting overclocking. Just get the correct hardware. When you overclock you risk overheating on other problems.

No overheating here, Volcano12 is good. I now finally have my abit NF7-S 2.0 and 512 3200 ram. Mustve been the old ram, as i can get the chip up to 1910mhz again, even a little higher. Runs quite stable on 2.0vcore. Lots faster than the old board, even pci devices are optimised!
