Nintendo is coming out with a new gaming system. Its a portable gaming system about the size of sega gamegear. It has dual screen action, can play gameboy colour, gamecube, and gameboy advanced games. You can set up the screens to have 2 different views. This would be sweet for those long car rides.
REDMOND, Wash., Jan 20, 2004 -- An unprecedented approach to video game play-- holding two separate game screens in the palm of your hand-- hits the scene later this year when Nintendo introduces a new portable game system, code-named Nintendo DS.
From information made available today, players can look forward to being able to manage their game progress from two different perspectives, enhancing both the speed and strategy of the challenge. For example in a soccer game, users can view the whole game on one screen while simultaneously focusing on an individual soccer player's tackle or goal on the other screen.
Players will no longer be forced to interrupt game play to shift perspective, such as moving from a wide shot to a close up, or alternating between a character's ongoing battle and a map of the environment. Nintendo DS makes it possible to perform the tasks in real time by simply glancing from one screen to the other.
Today's announcement is but a glimpse of the additional features and benefits that will be shown in full at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles in May. Once fully revealed, players will see innovative advances in game interaction.
"We have developed Nintendo DS based upon a completely different concept from existing game devices in order to provide players with a unique entertainment experience for the 21st century," explains Satoru Iwata, Nintendo president.
Nintendo DS features two separate 3-inch TFT LCD display panels, separate processors, and semiconductor memory of up to 1 Gigabit. It's scheduled to launch worldwide before the end of 2004.
In addition to Nintendo-developed software, the company is in discussions with third-party game developers around the world.
Nintendo DS will be marketed separately from the company's existing Nintendo Game Boy Advance portable system and Nintendo GameCube home console.
Stay tuned to Nintendo.com for more details on the Nintendo DS system as they are announced.

That looks to be a huge step foward in the world of gaming. I want one (once I see a bigger picture). But I can't believe it would be able to play GameCube games.

Well, if the hand held N-Gage can run 3-d games and such, then I guess this one should be able to handle GC level games. It's quite amazing to see how far we've come................in wasting away our brains that is!

I hate to be "that guy" but that picture you posted isn't the DS.

Nintendo hasn't revealed it yet, just announced it.

If anything we may see 'spy shots' before E3 this year, but I think we'll only see specs until then.

Never the less it's still good news. I just hope the DS doesn't look like that. =)

Yea, I was wondering, since the picture only has one screen, which negates the whole theme.

And nowhere did it say that it would play either GC or GBZ games, (Although gameboy compatibility is prob a given.) There really is almost no chance of it handling gamecube games.

The PsP and N-Gage play games at something like 320x240 resolution and at prob 30hz or less. They use very low texture detail and have power equivalent to a modern palm pilot. (see the Zodiac (http://tapwave.com/) for a real all in one, Palm, NES and GG/SMS support (http://www.kalemsoft.com/products.html) MP3, dual SD slots, ATI mobile graphics chip, and more...)

The Gamecube uses massive amounts of texture memory, HD resolutions, true 60fps, there is no way in hell of making that handheld unless nintendo is employing magic fairies.

Sorry if I misinformed. I got all that information and the picture from sympatico.ca . Even still, this gameing system will rock.
I found the old link, but it seems they cleaned it up and took that picture and the information out.

I heard that last week on cybershack. It's a radio program. I'm not sure if it is broadcasted over there.
