 My parents are no longer willing to buy me computers, so I've decided to make this one look a little cooler since I'll have it for a while. The first thing I did was add another 128 mb of RAM courtesy of the JANG, upping my P3 733 mhz system to 512. I'm doing okay on the hard drive front (one 20 gig and one 167 gig), but the video card needs an upgrade. Also, the case was ugly. So, I've decided to do a case mod.

Hehe, that was fun. Sparks are cool. You're looking at the side of the case that faces the computer, so there won't be "don't cut here" on the outside of my computer. After the Shoe Goo thats holding on the acrylic cures overnight, I want to get a pair of green cathode tubes. Later on, some sort of colorful case fun would be cool, but the computer is lound enough already. Anybody else working on a mod?

Hey cool mod. I've got UV-collecting flexible IDE cords in my system and two blacklight tubes, plus a colored ceiling fan. Ricey but hey ;)

Could have sworn that was a 256mb unit... I had a total of .5Gb and still have my two 128mb chips

No, it was 256 mb, but I pulled out an old 128 meg DIMM to make room. My motherboard only supports 512 max. :(

Sounds cool! :) UV collecting cords? Crap, I think this is going to get a bit more expensive than I was expecting. You have any pics? The problem is that I don't actually have a place for any 80mm fans, so I'll either need to stick to my current setup or find a smaller case fan that still has LED's in it.

The rice thing is sorta what I'm going for here. I will try to stay away from stickers, though.

I'll try to remember to get some tonight or so.

Ooh, that is very, very cool. :bling: I was thinking about dremeling a hole into the top of the case to mount a fan, but I'm still not close to comfortable enough with the tool.

That would be cool, maybe a carbon fiber case with some sort of logo cut out(dremeled of course). In behind the logo install a red cathode tube!(or any color that you desire). Hmmm.........I might have to go to compusa tomorrow!:D Now where to get some carbon fiber..........?

Actually, I was thinking about putting some cf in place of a drive bay. Is there any way to split it into 1 layer thin incremements?

Splitting woven graphite would be hard, but you can just buy CF fabric, or better yet, 1-layer veneer.

Do you guys know about Tech TV? There is a show called Screensavers. This guy, I think his name is Yoshi, does all kinds of things for his computers, gaming systens, ect. The link is:

Check it out. They are also on demand, too. If you have Comcast digital cable, the channel is 244.

Edit: I also would like to mod my computer, but my dad wont let me. He always says its good enough. I think he just doesnt want me to do it because he thinks I dont know what i'm doing. :sigh:

This is too fun. I'll look into carbon fiber fabric, but so far I'm pleased with my dual cathode tube installation:

Anybody ever read Stephen King's The Tommyknockers? This grren light reminds me of it. I still have to ifnish sanding down the side of the case to bare metal as well as possibly change all the Molex connectors to flat green. This is really, really fun. My girlfriend wants me to do it to her computer, but she's waiting for her dad to get home first.

Yup, Shawn's computer (XxDRIVERxX) inspired me. I just installed the on/off switch on the front of the case.

Looks great man.

JANG: Since you have blacklights in yours, take a highlighter (green, orange, whatever..), and color the side (side only) of all your add-on cards. It gives a pretty neat effect.

EDIT: Heres mine...

Thanks guys. I went with madrusty to Fry's and bought a case fan (my computer didn't eve have one). It has 4 blue LED's that cycle along with greeen LED in the middle. The camera had a hard time taking pics of this (cathodes off):

As I said, I sanded down the side to give it a brushed aluminum look. It came out pretty nicely...now I just need to find something to get the rest of the case pretty. You can see the switch I installed in an empty drive bay.

Overall, I'm really happy with the way this turned out. Most importantly, everything can be turned off if I get sick of it, and the fan is silent. 20 db, I think, with a bl motor. I do still want to do some minor stuff, like maybe get a new case badge, but other than that, I'm pretty much set. I'm a lot happier with this computer now that it looks better than it performs.

In true R/C fashion, the fan is attached with two Duratrax screws secured with 4 mm Traxxas nylock nuts.
