Anybody who has ever been within 10 ft. of a PS2 has heard/had this problem, I'm sure. Anyone sure on what causes it? I've taken mine apart multiple times to fix it, but I finally killed it last night. :o What really P's me off is the fact that I busted $350.00 for it back in the day when it was new, and it lasted about 3 yrs. BTW, how much do you think I could seel it for? lol.

the only time i get the error is when i try to play burned music cd's. i have to keep opening and closing the tray until it reads it. sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. as long as it plays my games and dvd's, i'm fine. still would be nice to play my cd's since i don't have a cd player though.

You need to clean the laser lense! Make sure your disks have no scratches(bad ones) or dust on them either.

HEY this really works. Take the PS2 apart and clean the lazer eye throughly with a q tipp and rubbing alcohol. I do it every other month. BE sure to peel the seel off in one piece LOL

If you plan to send it in, don't bother. You took it apart. On the side there is a piece of tape and it says. "Void of Warranty if tape is broken"

I have the exact same problem as you. I have the first production of PS2's when it first came out. Recently, when I go to play a new blue backed game, I have to stand it on end or even put it upside down to have it play. I just take it apart, clean the lens with acohol and the little rubber pad that the disc sits on to make sure it's not dry and is slipping.

Since you have taken it apart already, just use the method I use, because I get lucky once and a while after I clean it bluebacker's play without any errors.

I get this error, too. I havent opened it. I e-mailed them and they said to call them and they'll help, but I just cleaned it with a laser lens cleaner and it worked fine. Im not sure about now though.

but I finally killed it last night.

When I say "killed it" I mean it's literally dead. It doesn't even try to read the discs anymore. I've had it for about 3 yrs. and I'm very aware of taking it apart and cleaning it. It used to work, but after a long period of inactivity, it gave it's little life up. I'm buying a new one tomorrow... ugh. Too bad I dont have any XBox games, or I would go that route. It's just bad to have 10 or so PS2 games and then just give up on them.

see the white dial when u open it up to clean the lens(tray has to be sticking out) . Take a sharpie marker and mark the two teeth you are currently on... then move the dial once and try to get it to read the disc(you have to do it for every spot) This changes what angle the disc is read at and fixes the ps2 90% of the time(not for just mine) if this doesnt work which i bet it will i would just get a new ps2 and sell the other for parts.

already got a new PS2, I guess I could try that /\

BTW, my newere PS2 seems to look better than my old one... why is that? And it's missing one of the front ports.

"look better"
I mean the games, not the console itself... :p

The newer model ps2's have no i-link port.

why?

I'm not too familiar with the PS2, but did they ever even use the i.Link port? I don't think I've ever seen peripherals for the PS2 running off that port. They probably cut it to save money on manufacturing.

I have the steering wheel that came out at the same time GT3 came out and it uses the iLink port! It's very cool, when you turn it gives you resistance that somewhat mimicks a real car.
