Any used Volvo has good reliability, especially the 200, 700, and 900 series models. 850's are usually good too, but check for tranny wear. Just make sure to do the regular fluid checks test drive. I can be more comprehensive on what to do, if you like. Any used Acura model is usually good, too.

Honda, Toyota....
It's tough no matter what. You've got to get a used car checked thoroughly before buying. Get the owner to agree to a "used car check" at a local repair shop of your choice, on you. It costs about $80.

My friend has a '90 Eagle talon. Pretty much a 2g eclipse. Pretty darn fast (13 sec quarter mile, slightly modded), excelent fuel mileage, minimal damage (replaced the tires and brake system shortly after buying). I beleive his has somewhere around 120k and he got it for about 5k. I plan on buying it used for about 3k in a couple of months after I get my permit. Its a great little car.

Anything Toyota is usually a good buy. If you wanted, a Kia will run forever. I've seen them from very early years with 200k+ miles and still running strong. If you're not looking for an import car, look at a Chevy Cavalier. They're nice. Stay away from the '90-'92 Camaro RS's though. They had some known problems with engine and tranny wear.

well i thought the two saturns they had at a local garage look good but after reading some websites i think i will pass on them.seem they are noted for bad trannys and using to much oil as well as having the engine blocks crack due to a poor mold atthe factory.

Well the late 80's to 92 Grand Marquis, Town Car , Crown Victoria/ LTD are all usually goood. Mine was free and runs perfect. My dad has 160K on his and it still runs like it did when he got it. They can be had for under 2K around here. Plus the insurance in cheep.

Try to stay away from older model ford tauruses. They may only initially cost you about $2000, But when the tranny goes out you'll spend that much more. If the tranny has already been replaced, then it would probably be ok, but I still would reccommend something else.

My first car was a late 80s Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight, my grandfather's.
Tip: If it's an old car with insanely low mileage, you can expect that something will go wrong once you start driving it frequently again. (My thermostat went bonkers, leaving me with a whole lot of nothing for a short time.)

just about all audi's have turbo's.....if you are lookign for a car....wait till the current model gets changes...then the used car's with the old model are depreciated by 50%.....

Yea dude serious. My grandma had one, went though 4 trnnies. My neighbor had one, blew on tranny and just junked it.
Anyway, Dodge neons, toyotas, nissans and tons of other cars are great, but are you looking for something fast?

If your lookin for cheap speed go with a later 80s early 90s 5.0L Mustang. A decent one can be had for about $2-5k.

I heard that after about 100,000 miles the engine craps out in those neons. Just what ive heard. id got for a Honda just make sure it has good cv joints. To make sure they are good drive the car in circules both left and right. If they sqeak or chatter that usualy means they are going out. Sorry bout the spelling I cant think tonight.
ya im not sure what to get. i looked at a 97 saturn today but the owner wasnt there so thats all i did was look. it has 74k on it and it looks good but looks can be deceiving.
as for somthing else well not to much around here. all the hondas have real high milage.

Hondas are usually good for 200k+ miles, but I wouldn't suggest getting one with over 170k. You can always have an engine re-built. My uncle traded his Dodge Caravan, which was losing its third or fourth transmission, for a Mercury Cougar with a rebuilt engine. He had a few problems to fix after that, but it was definitly worth the money he paid.
im still up in the air in what to get. i will wait till i find the perfect one instead of jumping on the first car to come by in my price range.
