I just got a home network, a wireless SMC 802.11g Router and I outfitted all computers not already with ethernet cables hooked in them with 802.11g wireless cards. I was installing the software and it said something about "ad hoc" mode which says you can do peer to peer communication including sending files to other wireless equipped computers. Does ne one know how to use this option, if so tell me ASAP, I really need to get this working!

I forget where you go, but I think you go to the file which you want to send, go to file, and export or something like that.

check each computer's sharing options. I had my computer set so no one could share, and it didnt show up on the other computers.

Ad-Hoc is a term used to describe multiple WiFi (802.11b) clients talking to each other without the use of an access point.

If you want to use the WiFi router as an access point, turn off Ad-Hoc mode or you'll have headaches.

Make sure you read around the net for properly securing your WiFi system. By it's design it has no security, but you can get it a little tougher to snoop in on.

ok so you got all the comps set up, they have the cards in place and they are turned on. Then you want to make your computer the admin so you creat the network first. Open my computer, then on the left hand side click on "set up a small office or home network" then walk through the wizard and finish. then you go to the other comps. Make sure they are on the same workgroup. To do that right click my computer and goto computer name. you should see a heading call 'workgroup', usually you want it to be on MSHOME, unless you want a different name like "RC Cars Rule" if it is different then the admin-YOU- click on the change button under neath then type in the correct workgroup name. now you are all on the same workgroup. Then run the start small network or office network, go through the same choices again. Then all yor comps are hooked up. now, lets say you want to share files, the folder you want to share, right click it then goto "sharing ans security", then click the box share this folder on the network. Your done. then goto the other computers, on the other comps, goto my computer, then my network places. You should see lets say "shared docs on ADmin" or wutever the comp name is. And when you open it you will see the files in that folder from the main computer or if you open shared folders from other computers. There you go, and you are welcome.

I just opened opened my comptuer (note: i'm using the xp professional computer right now) and there is nothing about "set up a small office or home network".

go to "my network places" then. the system tasks bar on the left has that as like the third or fourth option.
