oh and im trying to decide should i get a x-box 360 with Dirt 2 for christmas or a new rc car?? Opinions please! lol
i had dirt one for pc and it gave me problems. I have not heard anything on dirt 2. for some reason i cant find it any videogame stores around were i live. When dirt 1 worked for me it was awsome. For 360 its very good i played it at a gamestop. its just impossilbe to find for pc for some reason.
I was the biggest fan of the Colin McRae Rally series back in the day and I think I played versions 2 through 4 on the PC. Most realistic rally games ever, for sure. Then I switched to console gaming and when version 6 (DiRT) came out on the Xbox 360 I jumped on it quickly and played it almost every day! I was surprised by how well they managed to replicate the CMR driving experience through a console controller. They also added in a little short course racing which I had missed since the golden days of Leadfoot, and that was a great treat too. I wasn't a fan of the Raid stuff, though the inclusion of the T4 class was a cool novelty. Where DiRT fell apart was on the multiplayer side. No sie by side racing whatsoever, only heads up events where you race against the other person's time, in real time. Plus you couldn't start a multiplayer game with the settings you wanted, you had to choose from 3 (or was it 4) randomly-generated combinations of class/location/car. Really massive failure on that end.
I got DiRT 2 the day it came out and finished all of the single-player events on it pretty quickly. I'm a little disappointed that they've made it feel more arcade-like with the menus & voiceovers, trying to appeal to the X-Games crowd. I also feel like they overcompensated for their lack of side-by-side multiplayer action in the first by throwing in a ton of rallycross. The driving experience seems very different too. It's pretty intense, which is good, but I always felt a bit overwhelmed by the surroundings and focusing on the track, whereas in the previous games I felt more connected with my car. Also in this one, most of the cars are set up pretty well right out of the box, so the importance of tuning to get through each track has really been dialed back. I literally didn't need to change my setup in any event, I just had to focus on the track. Oh, also like in DiRT 1, the codriver in rally events is way too slow, sometimes not calling out turns until you're right on them, and not including fine technical details even on the enhanced setting.
All in all I feel like DiRT 2 was good entertainment while I was waiting for Forza 3, but it's not something I'll go back & play very often.

thanks for the review Jang i still want Dirt 2 though but i find its a lot of fun to find a favorite track and try and get a replay that looks just like a real driver its challanging and a lot of fun even when you have already beat the game. (i do this all the time on GT4 in the rally races) So im not too worried about replay value. i just want to make sure this is a good game to buy and that i wont end up regreting it
even though dirt one gave me tons of trouble i dont regreat buying it. its really the only true offroad racing game at that time that had realstic like handling and racing. non of those insane jump or taken a turn on gravel at 100mph and not sliding. dirt 2 should be just as good. so I would say its a good buy.

Thanks Jack now my only problem is should i get Dirt 2 with a 360 or a slash 4x4? lol
I'd go for the Xbox dude. Best entertainment valu you can get. Even some of the cheaper $10-15 arcade games on that thing are amazing. It's an investment that can last a lot, lot longer than interest in one particular RC would.
That's not to say that you shouldn't try to get the Slash 4x4 too, later, if you really want it :D

I wasn't all that impressed with Dirt 2 to be quite honest. I wish they would make it more of a sim like Forza.
